Good idea on the chorus Vic. I'm familiar with Audacity and will go grab it. I did not know you could layer tracks. I've been playing around with some DAW software called Reaper which is free for non-commercial use and it is feature packed. It's really pretty awesome. But I'm wanting something simpler for capturing ideas quickly. I can get lost in all that technology and lose my inspiration very easily. Plus I never seem to own a computer that is up on all the specs necessary for all that extra stuff.

Ernie

Well hello, stikman - Ernie - and welcome to the SSG! Always nice to see a new face in here....stick around a while.

I like where you're going with this - and I like that you're ready and willing to take advice, and maybe change a line that might seem good to you but doesn't work for others. The original draft's fine - the little tweaks and changes make it better. The one small criticism I've got? Yes, it is slightly monotonous - in the sense of not much change, musically speaking, between the verses and the chorus. I don't mean boring - the lyrics are strong enough to carry the song - just that it could do with some variation.

Lots of plus points, though - strong story line, the music does suit the mood admirably, and the fact that you got up at 2am ish to finish writing - ah, you're a born writer! Never leave a song overnight - "Oh, I'll remember it in the morning...." - is one of the golden rules of songwriting....always write it down!

This one's already looking like a keeper....looking forward to more. Oh, by the way, I don't know what software you're using to record - but if you get around to re-doing this, and I hope you do, you might like to think about overdubbing a second vocal line for the chorus for a little extra impact...it's easy enough to do with Audacity, the program I use. And kudos for singing and playing at the same time.....

Yep, definitely looking forward to reading and hearing more from you!

:D :D :D

Vic

(And keep that notebook by the bed!)

Thanks for the input. I may re-record it on a better system and be sure to put the "had" in contagiousjerm. I think it would finalize the chorus and rhymically it helps.

James thanks for help with soundclick. I just was not looking hard enough. I thought the 2nd version was more solid. I liked getting the chorus off the front end and adding the four new lines to the chorus seemed to make it all a bit more cohesive. The only difference in the chord progressions is there is an Am in the chorus so the thing is very similar and it's all very Dminory. I'd like to switch the chords up somehow. Any suggestions? Hopefully as I go through the guitarnoise lessons and podcasts I'll learn some things about chord theory as well as tighten my guitar playing and singing. I love those podcasts from Mr Hodge.

This has been a good process for me. This it the first song that I have brought to any level of completion and recorded and I guess it's having an assignment that did it. I would not have written about this otherwise.

Alan I had some 4 o/c inspiration last night. I'd rather be sleeping but I've learned to write things down immediately because they are gone in five minutes.

Thanks again,

Ernie
