Hi Vic :D I did mean the second song to start with the title but somehow didn't think to write it down twice, once as title and once as first line... in my computer file the title is not underlined (thus, part of the song) and here I had to underline it to clarify where the next song starts  So the fact that you picked that up must mean (the title as) the first line works :D
And since you asked for them:

pawnslost

I would say to myself
Don't bet your heart on this
And when you return from Sweden
Don't leave your parents alone with the photographs
And when you graduate
Don't leave your friends for a sleeping, high blank

Don't run and wait
Because it's only you
Who moves the figures on this board, losing
Every single pawn to get to the other side
With hopes like high-rises
And you will say
If no one waits and holds their plans
We'll never find a space inbetween the words
On his to-do-lists
To meet in

I would say to myself
That is true but you
Can only lose
This game
Because a game it is
And a kiss will end it

So, don't bet your heart on this
But then again I'm not sure I could have helped it.

Lighthouses & Cinnamon Tea

I wouldn't tell myself not to take your hand
In a night, one July, years ago
Or to keep the heart in safe command
As its veins reach out for you
Because life in a hospital bed
Is not where I want to end up at

I might tell myself that they're right
Every night, August, a year ago
There are smiles in the future, cry,
But chocolate and cake
Will never fail you
And you will dare to eat again

I know it's the saddest thing
The snow of five days melting
And the asphalt already breaking
Through

But sometimes there is nothing
Except waiting at the foot
Of lighthouses or drinking
Cinnamon tea in the dark
Sometimes there is nothing
You really can do
And I think I knew
Still I might swear
This will pass

..... little more of the same topic, I guess... you see that it came from the same stream of thoughts :D

Cheers,
straycat.

P.S.: good to see all that studying's not affecting the writing - the nights get shorter+ the sleep less

I like both these songs - on the whole, I think I just prefer Strawberry Cake. There's an almost child-like simplicity about it, kind of a wistful, yearning, nostagic feel to it....from "Skimming," I love these lines...

"If they stopped skimming through the book
And losing a page would make any difference
To where I am
I think I would steal, I think I would unstitch."

One thing I'm curious about - why didn't you start the second song with the title?

"If you stopped skimming through the book,
I think I would steal the yarn and needle
From out of my slapdash hand".....etc....

seems to flow well to me, but of course I've no way of knowing what sort of melody, meter etc you've got in mind....I just thought the title would make a nice opening line to set the scene, so to speak...

Anyway, good to see all that studying's not affecting the writing - now where's the other two songs?

:D :D :D

Vic
