                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[aw, this is terrific!<br>get an "Into the Wild" and "Varg" (Swedish movie) feeling from this, which is great.<br>love the italic lines, especially (apart from the ooohs for which i always fall) the way they transform towards the end.<br>unlike James, i am fond of the beast line, i think it fits well with the image of a rough life and the title of the song<br>and i think it's a good contrast to "best friend" (er.. reads to me like a summary of the journey from distance/distrust to close comradeship/trust neglecting outward appearances and all)... <br>and i'd keep it to the three holes if i were you, because three's a good number (easier/smoother to fit in than something to the effct that she was peppered with holes, i assume) and bad enough if you have three of those holes. <br><br>oh and i love the line "not quite wolf enough to call a husky"!<br><br>aw, this is great, hope it will be put to music sometime!<br>cheers,<br>straycat.]]></content:encoded>

                        <content:encoded><![CDATA[Hmm, I've got one little nitpicky niggle as well...."When you're burying a beast with three holes in its side" - wasn't so much the reference to a beast, as opposed to a best friend, I wasn't keen on, but the fact that there's only three holes in his side - a brave, courageous beast like that should be peppered with holes, really, and keep fighting when he/she should really be dead. That's the only negative I can find, and it's only a minor one.<br><br>Not sure what the well known novel is - you going to let us know? - but I did get a very "Jack London" vibe, reminds me of stories I read (and enjoyed!) as a kid.....<br><br> :D  :D  :D <br><br>Vic]]></content:encoded>

It sounds like it would be a good match-up.<br><br>I'd say it could stand pretty much as is.  A couple of minor points:<br><br>"Feller came to trust that dog like no other ever could"<br>Kind of pulls me out of the moment; almost like a challenge...has there ever been a love like this?  Consider more along the lines....more than he had trusted anyone else before or was surprised how much he grow to depend on the dog emotionally<br><br>When you're burying a beast with three holes in its side<br><br>I like the "best friend line" -beast adds emotional distance for me....Maybe tag "best friend" twice or personify call the dog "Faith" or "Heart"....sounds corny as I type, but "beast" adds distance when it's an emotional climatic point of the song.<br><br>Again, nitpicking......Here's to your hot streak!!!!  :mrgreen: <br><br>James]]></content:encoded>
