I was mostly concerned with how calling someone an 8 cow wife  was actually a huge compliment, so it needed to be setup in the verses.
Regarding the "swinging anti-clockwise" (nice phrase btw  ) When it's time to get back to this one, I'll definitely rework the drums....won't be for a while though
and enjoy your vacation!! (also, any post will be appreciated, lo-fi rules ok :D )
Yes, I've intentionally told myself not to try this week's assignment so I can use my mental energy for all the real life details that need to be handled in preparations to signing new rental contracts, lining up a mover, traveling overseas, getting back and moving house then starting back to a work with a new school year.

I'm sure there will be some down time, but I am also sure it is not this week!

Thanks again.

James

 abnormally shy! nice wording!

love the singing, too, great melody, i think. a bit easy-going/light but not making fun of anyone. especially the chorus, down-to-earth beauty (for lack of words  )!
however, the instruments did distract me a bit in the first fourth of the song, seemed to be swinging anti-clockwise to the singing melody, if that makes any sense at all

thanks for sharing!
and enjoy your vacation!! That's great! I'm glad you looked it up and enjoyed the read. :D

I hadn't heard of "The Lori Berkner Band" so thanks for the info. I think I might have to do something like this for work b/c every year we have to make new long term and short term goals as part of our teacher evaluation....I keep writing my long term goal as ESL related publication or research materials.....I've used that the last couple of years and now my principal is saying....spell out the details....
Did you use a slide/bottle on the guitar to get the lap guitar effect?
Good ears  Yes, I have a glass slide....I don't do much of it, but it worked for the mood effect
The drums never settled down into the mix for me...even off time...they felt off time....but that might have been the effect you where looking for.
I'll chalk the rhythm problems up to laziness. I didn't even bother listening through the different exotic beats.....I just picked the first one......I kind of had an idea to start like "iko iko" by The Belle Stars
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3Eg-ANVYm8&feature=related
but I didn't want to copy the whole song/style....so yes, it's messy and would definitely need more TLC in the future
I really appreciate how you arrange your songs,
Thanks for the encouragement....it's a part of songwriting I really enjoy......Unfortunately or fortunately I will be on vacation for June and July which means I won't have my computer  I know I am getting a little out of balance when I actually don't look forward to vacations  But honestly the routine of a job let's me put in my time and have most evenings to work on songwriting.....I am pretty co-dependent on my computer....google and sonar and music.....

So don't be too surprised when I am off the radar for a bit in the summer and then only post my low low lo-fi gtr and vox recordings for a while

Thanks again.

James

James

I like the story! After reading the story behind the song it made listening to the song even more enjoyable.

I see you went for an island feel with the music...and the light harded feel of the music went well with the story. I bet you could write a I whole disk of these type of songs with the stories and the learning points and there would be a market...like The Lori Berkner Band. My kids love her!

Listening to the mix...I like how you panned the separate guitar parts. Did you use a slide/bottle on the guitar to get the lap guitar effect? The accordian/organ voice that concluded the end of the chorus was a nice touch! The drums never settled down into the mix for me...even off time...they felt off time....but that might have been the effect you where looking for.

I really appreciate how you arrange your songs, when I listen to the different progressions in Chlorine and other stuff you have submitted it seems that there is always a pleasent surprise in the harmony and/or arrangement of your songs that make listening to them even more enjoyable.

Take care

Jeff
