You're right! I think he probably has about three expressions these days - Deep, Very Deep, and "If I Was Any Deeper I'd Pop Out on the Other Side of the Planet"...

Although it's just possible that one of them is actually something like "Blood Pressure Medication Just isn't as Much Fun as Acid Was..." or maybe "Darn, I Think the Tape on the Colostomy Bag is Slipping Off Again...."

I like your idea of emphasizing the question of 'would you jump off a bridge if Simple Simon says so?' because . . .
One direction I thought of going was, after that admonishment, the character confronts Simple Simon.
He tells him he's not going to do everything Simple Simon says.
That others have told him he needs to stand on his own two feet . . .
To which Simple Simple Simon replies . . .
"Do you always do what people tell you to"

At which point the last two lines would be appropriate . . . again.

LIke this one a lot and can definitely hear it done in early Dylan style (pre 1970, I'd say). It's a great mixture of old adages that make one rethink them a bit when played against each other. The only suggestion I'd make is with the the second verse. I'm not sure I'd use the third and fourth lines and might, instead, repeat the last two lines of the first verse, maybe like this:

Silence may be golden and all that glitters isn't gold
It's your constant overexposure that's being undersold
When you can't see the forest for all the trees there in the way
Sister, take two aspirin and call it a day
Simon says to stop it and then he tells you when to go
Would you jump off a bridge if Simple Simon told you so?

Do you have any music in mind for this yet? Definitely looking forward to hearing it.
