If you're taking a guitar on a plane, get a good hardcase....the key word being GOOD!!!

I took an acoustic abroad in a Hiscox case, the Mrs nearly had apoplexy when I told her how much it cost....then I took an electric abroad in a cheap hard case, it survived the flight out and a lot of lugging around, but almost fell to pieces on the baggage conveyor when we got back to Gatwick....

Do NOT put it in a gig bag unless you're sure you can carry it on....it will not survive the trip....baggage handlers are notoriously unconcerned when it comes to handling guitars, unless they're musicians themselves...but then they wouldn't be baggage handlers would they....

:D :D :D

James,

I would put some old shirts (or shirts you plan on wearing  ) under the headstock to help support it. Don't make it too tight though.

Most cases lack headstock support, so to counter act that, put some quality filler in there for added support during long travels where banging and clanging can occur.
