Many thanks, Guys.

I was offline for a while after I posted that, and came back to find SO much info.

Thanks,
Ande

PS- Memorizing circle and playiing scales now...

Hi,

If you want an easy way to remind yourself of the order of the letters, just look at the 5th and 6th (A and E) strings on your guitar. This is harder to explain in words - but dead easy when you're looking at the neck.

If you start at the C on the third fret of the 5th string (A string) and move across to the E string you'll see the next letter - G.

Move up two frets and back to the A string and there's the next letter D. Back to the E and there's the letter A, and so on.

Just start at C and zigzag your way up the neck, two frets at a time, and you'll get all the letters of the circle of fifths in clockwise order. I guess it only works if you know the notes on the neck though. But if you don't, it's always good to know anyway...

I don't have a link to a handy picture but here's an image from freewebs.com that shows the start of the sequence. Look at just the bottom two strings of the lower image. You can see CGDAEB and if you kept going with the pattern you'd get F#/Gb Db, Ab etc

Cheers,

Chris
