hiya
i'v been playing the acoustic for little over 3 months .. i'm pretty decent but i'd like to know wat r the specific nuances that a acoutic player needs to be aware about .... a few that i hav picked up < thanx to this site > r as follows
>slapping the strings while strumming
>finger pickin
>slurrs < hammer ons and pull offs >
>deadening the strings with the left hand (not playing them completely )
in between strums for innovative strumming
but i think Mr. clapton knows some other stuff that i dont know
wat else is there ? how do i broaden my horizons !!
:P
Try throwing in some harmonics. 5th, 7th and 12 frets are common ones. Personally, I like going back and forth between the 7th and 12 frets.
Oh, you forgot slides and vibratos etc, etc......
Don't forget bends....
It's not easy being green.... good thing I'm purple.
Hi there, can anyone please explain this slapping the strings technique to me, and possibly give an example of how it should sound?
Thanks.
slap style rythm. sorry I dont have sound clips.
it is an extension of palm muting.
palm muting is where the fat part of your picking hand rests on the strings just after picking a note.
practice by laying your the side of your hand across the strings over the bridge.
no vibration. slowly raise your hand you should get longer vbrations.
do a dance. pick palm mute pick plam mute. your hand is bopping up and down.
then form a chord. same thing. strum and palm mute.
the time between the strum and mute is up to you.
you should have a nice percussive rythm sounding now.
this is an essential technique. and since we are all built differently it will be unique, somewhat, to the player.
so dont beat yourself up if you dont sound like someone else.
hmm simple as that huh??? sound like something for me to practice.
Thanks for the explanation.
"simple as that, huh?"
Im killing myself using words. if I could show you it' would be simpler.
keep our wrist relaxed. relaxed but not limp.
ya, words again.
