Tapping your foot is fine... if the rhythm is regular. A metronome doesn't falter, speed up, or slow down. Mechanical ones have an arm that swings back and forth, and all metronomes give an audible 'click' on the beat. You can adjust the speed.

I have a metronome / tuner

mmmmmm yes mine does click when it starts the needle goes over on a arc like movement clicks and returns then clicks again before returning , so every time the needle get to the end of its run it clicks .

THE QUESTION

Which click is the beat the first one , the second one or every time it clicks ?

I have been here for about 2 years and still don't know how to use a metronome , embarrassed

I dont always use my metronome but I use it regularly. But I would suggest you do both. When you use the metronome, tap your foot along with it. Get your foot used to tapping in a regular beat.

Hilch,

most metronomes have a setting where you can specify what time measure it will play and it will accent the 1 beat

for example:

(accent beat in uppercase)

4/4... B b b b B b b b B b b b B b b b

3/4... B b b B b b B b b B b b B b b etc.

I hope this is what you mean.

Peace
J

hi hilch

if your metronome does not accent the first beat you can choose whatever click you like and use it as the first beat. I mean I recently bought a mteronome (see my topic if you wish :D !) and it gives you the chanche to choose the number of beats, so if I choose 4 beats per measure it does accent the first one: I decide to choose 0 beat and so evry click sounds the same!
