The Behringer and the Vox modelling amps will both give you more chance to play with your sound than the Marshall which only has some additional effects. 15 watts is enough to start with.

I've got a Fender Tele, Strat, an epi and an Ibanez. For playability, none of them touches the Ibanez. For sound, my fav is the epi. The Strat is good for some 'Floyd stuff, and the Tele is good for a lot of Stones. I guess if I could only keep one, it would be the Epi.
I have two Fender amps, but I use a V-Amp for anything that requires effects. I just love the sound of the clean Fenders for some reason.

sayno,
before you go and spend 600 bucks on gear, be sure guitar is what you want, i would start off, maybe with a squier strat 150 bucks ( which is a great beginners guitar) and a 10 watt practice amp 75 to 100 bucks, that way if you decide guitar is not for you your only out
250 instead of 600, you can always upgrade, and if guitar fever does hit you, you can expect
a lifelong case of gas :P , hope you stick with it 8)

I agree with Rocker and Primeta. I would go buy either a squier beginners package or one of the $99 guitar/amp Behringer packages. No doubt that if you are in it for long then it doesnt matter what you buy, you are going to buy more. I have read alot about the Behringer Packageand honestly its going to be my third guitar. Not the one I ultimately want, but it will get me into an electric (My other two are acoustic). I would also stay away from acoustics if I were you because it sounds like you already feel the need to play electric. Trust your feelings. I love playing my acoustic... but thats what I wanted to play. Vice Versa to you.
Good luck. BTW.. the link is to Musicians Friend ad on the Behringer.

Ditch the behringer ...get a squier or epiphone.
Behringer is a buzzing machine that is...And You get what you pay for..Seriously.
As always, it comes down to how serious you feel. The Behringer package has a good amp, but the quality of the guitar is quite variable, some get lucky.
In the packages from Squier and Epiphone, the guitar is the better part.
As you've already had some experience I think you should go higher than the packages, because they do really compromise on one component or the other.
I think you've had enough suggestions of what to try out. For mid-priced gear there are a lot of good choices besides Fender (which I don't think comes into it's own until the higher ranges IMO)
I would take the craftsmanship and materials of a Godin over any Squier or mid-priced Fender, any day of the week. But I think you need to go try some of them out now. :)

what would you guys get if you were in the same position as i am? 600dollar budget, a beginner, need a guitar and amp.
I can answer that question quite well, because I was in a very similar position. I had a slightly higher budget, around $800.
I bought a MIM strat and a VOX AD30VT. MIM strat is about $370, vox amp was $230 + all the extras (tuner, gig bag, strap) +tax was around $730. (See this thread)
Now, if you buy everything mail order except the guitar, and go down to a VOX AD 15 VT or a Roland Cube 15 (basically 15W amps instead of 30W), I think you can make it within your budget. The nice thing about both these amps is that they have lots of different amp models, so you can get quite a few different sounds.
