Ok I have 2 questions
does any one know how to practice sing by ones self?
(I am really bad at singing so anything just to get me started)
if your improvising do the notes you hit have to be in the chord thats played?
Thanks
There are a few good sites that offer free singing lessons. Here is one.
If you search around on that site they even have a player that will help you sing scales in any key. They also have many good articles that will tell you how to sing well and take care of your voice.
When you sing over a chord you do not have to sing notes specifically in that chord. For instance, a G Major chord is only the notes G, B, and D.
But you could sing any note in the G Major scale; G, A, B, C, D, E, F#.
You can use other notes as well. For instance, Blues music uses the flat 3rd and flat 7th tones often. So you could sing a Bb or F note over a G Major chord. This will give you the distinctive Blues sound. There are many other scales as well. So you are not limited just to the notes of a chord.
If you know something better than Rock and Roll, I'd like to hear it - Jerry Lee Lewis
