so I've decided to spend a week just practing techniques. However the last thing I'm not too sure about is doing vibrato while the string is bent...
I'm learning the solo in stairway to heaven so I would MUCH appreciate any tips or hints on this technique.
Basically vibrato is just bending the string back and forth quickly (or slowly, depending on the type of vibrato). It's hard to describe exactly and it takes A LONG TIME to improve it, if you have patience and practice it for a while, i'm sure you can get it... if you have a teacher to guide you that would be even better, as well, if you're interested in "proper" bending technique I read an article on a website called Guitar Principles, it's a good article about having good bending technique, here is the link:

Make sure you bend and vibrato from the wrist, not your fingers. It's like opening a door, you wrotate your wrist and keep your fingers in place. Then when you make a bend and reach your note have it drop slightly and bring it back up. Do it slowly but precisely. It takes a bit of strength and a lot of technique so take your time. If you don't do either a regular vibrato or a bend correctly you'll never learn to do a vibrato'ed bend.

Great way to describe it! This was one of the hardest things to learn, because nobody could explain the mechanics of it - you did a great job describing it.

That was a huge help. Thanks.

Oh oh and try to watch a video of B.B. King...that could help you, his vibratos are wild!
I've been trying to follow his 'dead-finger-flapping' approach but without success (yet!)
