I'd Love to Change the World- Ten Years After

Here is a great Classic song that will give you
practice playing arpeggios and runs between chords.

Chords used in this song

--Em----G----Am----C----B7

e--0----3----0-----0----2---
b--0----0----1-----1----0---
g--0----0----2-----0----2---
d--2----0----2-----2----1---
a--2----2----0-----3----2---
e--0----3--------------------

Riff 1

e---------------------------------3-----------
b------------0------------------------0-------
g---------0-------------------0----------0----
d-----2-------------------0-----------------0-
a-----------------------------------------------
e--0----------0-1-2-3-------------------------

e-------------------------------------------
b-----------1-------------------1-------0--
g--------2-------------------0-------2-----
d-----2-------------------2-------1--------
a--0-----------0-1-2-3--------2-----------
e-------------------------------------------

That's it. Try to get a fluid sound. Let
the root bass notes ring. Also let that
high G note at the 3rd fret on the 1st string
ring.

The only other change in this song is that
when Alvin Lee sings the verses he strums
these chords. Each chord is played in the same
manner

e--0---0-0-----------3---3-3---------0---0-0--
b--0---0-0-----------0---0-0---------1---1-1--
g--0---0-0-----------0---0-0---------2---2-2--
d--2---2-2-----------0---0-0---------2---2-2--
a--2---2-2-----------2---2-2---------0---0-0--
e--0---0-0-----------3---3-3-------------------

e--0---0-0---2---2-2--
b--1---1-1---0---0-0--
g--0---0-0---2---2-2--
d--2---2-2---1---1-1--
a--3---3-3---2---2-2--
e-----------------------

I tried to show the timing by spacing. The first
strum is 3/16 of a note. The second strum is 1/16
of a note. The third strum is a quarter note, then
you have 2 beats of rest. All chords are played in
this manner until you get to the C B7 change. There
is no rest after the C chord. On the third beat of
the measure you go straight into the B7 chord strum.

You can also substitute full barre chords for the
strum section

So you play Riff 1 for the intro and all choruses
You strum during the verses.

This is a very easy but beautiful song.
Solo is played with E Minor Pentatonic.

I'd Love to Change the World

Intro- Riff 1

(Strum)Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is (Riff 1)sanity
(Strum)Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no (Riff 1)more

(Riff 1)I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

(Strum)Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding (Riff 1)economy
(Strum)Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money,(Riff 1) Monopoly

(Riff 1)I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

(Strum)World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war(Riff 1)

(Riff 1)I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

This is the first one you've ever come up with Wes where I can honestly say I've never heard of the song - heard of TYA of course - looks interesting though and if you approach the song as if you've never heard it before you may get a whole new slant on it - sounds good though - I'll have to see if I can track it down anywhere...........

Apart from "Going Home" - off the Woodstock movie - think the only other thing I've ever heard of this is "Love like a Man" which was a minor hit in this part of the world in about, errr, 1970.......

Vic

You should check em' out. They have a lot of great songs like "Rock and Roll Music to the World".

IMHO Going Home was the best song at Woodstock.

Thanks Slothrob

I knew I couldn't be the only Ten Years After fan out there.

I learned a lot about lead guitar from copying Alvin Lee. Great singer too, especially the Blues.
