Here's a really easy classic from the Drifters. It makes a great acoustic sing-along. I love playing this. The strum pattern is easy too. Its just D and U/D/U. D and U/D/U. repeated. Goes great with a bit of palm muting added too.

I heard it the other night while cruising through the itunes store. Not by the Drifters though. It was given a real hard rock treatment by "The Yardbirds opps!, sorry "The Troggs" (see my post below). Unusual but it grew on me. Maybe Vic Lewis has heard that one and can add the tabs for their version. "Oh Pop Guru Vic wherefore art thou oh masterful one!"

Here it is then:

Verse 1:

(A)You can dance every dance with the guy who gives you the eye

(A)Let him (E)hold you tight

(E)You can smile every smile for the man who held your hand

(E)Neath the (A)pale moonlight

Chorus:

(A)But Don't for(D)get who's taking you home

(D)And in whose arms you're (A)gonna be

(A)So (E)darling, save the last dance for(A)me

Verse 2:

(A)Oh I know that the music is fine like sparkling wine

(A)Go and (E)have your fun

(E)Laugh and sing but while we're apart

(E)Don't give your heart to (A)anyone

Chorus:

(A)But Don't for(D)get who's taking you home

(D)And in whose arms you're (A)gonna be

(A)So (E)darling, save the last dance for(A)me

Verse 3:

(A)Baby don't you know I (E)love you so

(E)Can't you feel it when we (A) touch

(A)I will never never (E)let you go

(E)Cause I love you oh so (A)much

Chorus:

(A)But Don't for(D)get who's taking you home

(D)And in whose arms you're (A)gonna be

(A)So (E)darling, save the last dance for(A)me

Verse 4:

(A)You can dance, go and carry on

(A)Till the night is gone and it's (E)time to go

(E)If he asks if you're all alone and can he take you home

(A)You must tell him No

All the best,

Chris

Thanks for the great song. I have never heard the Yardbirds version. I always really loved the vocals in this song. 8)

Hmmm - I never heard the Yardbirds' version either....

I've a sneaking suspicion there should be a couple of 7ths in there -

(A7)But Don't for(D)get who's taking you (D7)home

And in whose arms you're (A)gonna be

(A7)So (E)darling, save the (E7)last (E)dance (E7)for (A)me....

That's how I used to play it anyway....

:D :D :D

Just been looking to see if I could find an MP3 of the 'birds version, can't find one anywhere. Are you sure it was the Yardbirds?
Nice song, though.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

A thousand apologies Wes, Vic & Greybeard,

It was the Troggs who did the rock version. Its listed on itunes as a track on Rock Masters Love is All Around. I said Yardbirds because I was trawling through their back catalogue on itunes at the same time.

Vic,

I'm, gonna try your version out using the those 7th chords. :D :D :D

BTW - shouldn't the last line of verse four read "(A)You must tell him NO".....
