While That's my personal opinion too, Staind1, I think the purpose of this board is to facillitate the creation of Tabulature for easy songs, so that beginnign guitar players can find something they recognize and hopefully like to play. Scales and finger exercises get pretty boring, especially when you're just starting, and so I think it's wonderful that we have an opportunity to encourage beginners by offering then easy music to start with.

Like it or not, many people Like the White Stripes. like I said, I, personally, am not a fan at all, but ther are many who are. calling them stupid or crazy for doing os will not change the fact that they DO like them... so regardless of whether or not the White Stripes deserve the fan base that they have you cannot change the fact that many people admire them by ripping on them. What you've said is beside the point; The point of this board is to help out fellow guitarists by transcribing their favorite music for them, and I intend to help do that. If there was a very popular song around I would be happy to put it into TAB for beginners even if it contained nothing but the yuckiest D##sus2add9 chord you ever heard. If you want to start a thread discussing the music of the White Stripes we have a great board called "Opinions and Polls" that woudl be perfect for it, but please do not trash groups here where it will do no good to either the beginners we're trying to help OR yourself... you are not going to convince anyone to stop listenign ot the White Stripes by approaching it this way.

There's nothing wrong with your opinion. As I said, I share it. But this is not the place for it and you should try to avoid expressing it in a way that others could os easily find offensive

Excuse me but all i did was ask a question, i never said anything about calling people stupid or crazy and i never ripped on anyone, and as far as the opinions forum goes hell everytime you express an opinion down there some power mod comes along and deletes it, cause it's BAAAAAAAAAAAD if you give an opinion in opinions forum,. i am going to be heard like it or not.

and i wasn't trashing yer thread and i certainly don't have to convince anyone to stop listen to white stripes...

staind,

apart from being way off topic you're also out of line.

You are more than welcome to express an opinion - in a civilised fashion. What upsets the "power mods" is your liberal and unnecessary use of adjectives. Look at your last post, it is a tirade, not an opinion. That is why your posts get pulled, no other reason

Look at the O&P forum, there are 375 topics and 6366 posts that haven't been pulled by the mods as against a handful that have.  So where is the power trip?

you don't consider that post an opinion??yeah it is my opinion based on my experiences here. the reason why you and others don't like it is because it's the truth and i always speak my mind. look at the caption under my pic....yeah "free thinkers are dangerous" i am sorry if i'm not as politically correct as you are or as much as you'd like for me to be, apart from being sheepal, i choose not to follow the crowd and do what every body else does, that too is boring. i am sorry if i have offended you. but it offends me even more when i'm sensored all over the place just because i express my opinions and views on matters, and those opinions and views just so happens to be what you don't like to hear, well sorry, i ams not always going to agree with you or see things in your light, (this is pretty much for everyone reading this) not just the grey one haha see and when i post things and i use facies like this ;D :D ;) :-X these are happy facies you see them in alot of my post, so most of the time i'm just funnin' but you never see it that way now do you? ;D

and what is the deal with "unnecessary use of adjectives" oh so if i don't use proper English i get sensored for that too?? well sorry i don't speak the same language as the rest of you do. i barely passed english in school anyway.

staind,

You managed to leave out the unecessary adjectives in that entire post. Thank you.

Your opinion is as valid here as anyone elses, no matter that you see the world differently to me.
The problem is the way you express yourself. You feel the need to add description which is unnecessary, like there is no such thing as a Squier, just a crappy Squier.
Leave out the excess and argue your corner as if you were talking to a lady that you have total respect for and I, for one, will not censor your posts.  If I disagree, I will tell you, but I will NOT use my position as moderator to gag you and that's a promise.

Considering that you "barely passed English", you are more than able to make a good and solid argument. You are capable of expressing yourself very well, without the need for the "crappy"s, etc..

Just read through that last post again. You said clearly and concisely what you had to say - no insults, no unnecessary adjectives (no crappys, etc). That's your opinion and you have every right to it and you expressed in a way that is in no way offensive to anyone. I'm not going to touch it and I trust that all the mods will do the same.

the grey one  :)

Staind1-
It's like playing “A Horse With No Name”.  A painful song to play.
But when you are just starting out, it's better than nothing.
You know what I mean?
The songs are for beginners just starting out.
It's more importance for us just to learn how to switch between chords, and learn difference-strumming patterns, than to play what we love.
You got to start somewhere.
And I for one will take any and all the help I can get.
This is not a popularity contest.
If you have a better lesson for us, than please post it.
I am willing to try anything and everything.
Can't we all just get along?
-Bull

Thank you Greybeard, I wish I had your talent for eloquence. I of all people would hate tu see guitarnoise turn into censorsihp central, but I have no fear that that will happen. In my personal experience you and the other moderators have always been very open to anyone's opinion... Even the thread about the death of Kurt Cobain lasted until it became a tautological exerciese in "no... you're wrong"-"no, YOU'RE wrong".  I think all of us, not just Staind, need to remember to take advantage of the mode of communication that we use here. When a face to face conversation turns into an argument, it is easy to lose your temper and let something slip out that should have been checked. I've done it before. But on this message board we have the benefit of being able to read and review what we say before others see it... I know I've caught myself typing the first thing that came to me and discovered that it was prompted by reflexive anger or defensiveness...  What a great world it would be if all people had that ability when they conversed or negotiated. I hope none of us feels afraid to express an opinion, but I also hope all of us take the time to express it civily.

thanks again, greybeard.

Somebody want to give a "chord/lyrics" file so we can post this one?

Yeah, I think Bull has the pre-chorus spot on, but I've always played the chorus bit as strummed power chords on the same notes as Bull's version of the verse...

Also, you can play the verse like this:

A|--7--7-10-7------------
E|---------------10-8-7--

Much the same sound, but less of that nasty sliding that CGW doesn't like...  ;)

I've noticed this and some other old songs have a bunch of in-line html screwing up the post. Any chance of editing some of these over time? I know this is a volunteer effort and much appreciated, I'm just pointing this out. I could also potentially help w/ reformatting if given some guidance.

I'm not sure this song should be here, as it is actually in Open A and played with a slide.

One chord is fine.
Two you're pushing it.
Three and you're into jazz.

Yeah, it happened during one of the upgrades a while back. It's a bit time consuming, but it's not that hard. Just replace each
tag with a carriage return, and put code tags around the TAB segments to force them to use a fixed width font.

Here we go, I hope I didn't miss anything important

Chuck Petrey started with this:

Intro

Low
E -5-8-5-3-1-0-5-5-8-5-3-1-0

Intro to Chorus

D|10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12
A|10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-12-12-12-12-12-12-12-12
E|-8--8--8--8--8--8--8--8-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10

Chorus

G|9-9-12-9-7-5-4--9-9-12-9-7-5-7-5-4
D|9-9-12-9-7-5-4--9-9-12-9-7-5-7-5-4
A|7-7-10-7-5-3-2--7-7-10-7-5-3-5-3-2

Outro of Chours
Same as Intro

Thats the whole song... other than the solo...

Then Ignar Hillstrøm said:

Maybe I will show my blatant stupidty, but aren't you playing the following chords instead:

Intro to chorus:
C5 and D5.

Chorus:
E5, G5, D5, C5 and B5.

So in short, just the B, C, D, E and G powerchords.

Next Elvis added:

it sounds pretty good to throw in a couple of slides in the chorus, something like this

G|9-9/12-9-7-5-4--9-9-12-9-7-5/7-5-4
D|9-9/12-9-7-5-4--9-9-12-9-7-5/7-5-4
A|7-7/10-7-5-3-2--7-7-10-7-5-3/5-3-2

and CGW in collaboration with TheDude posted:

It should read:
e-------------------------------------------------------------
B-------------------------------------------------------------
G-------------------------------------------------------------
D-------------------------------------------------------------
A--0-0--3--0------------------------------------------------
E---------------3---1---0------------------------------------
...for the intro.

Then Bull posted:

lastly Zero added:

Also, you can play the verse like this:
A|--7--7-10-7------------
E|---------------10-8-7--

I think that's the high points cleaned up... and hopefully I haven't introduced any errors into any of the TABs.

Now, I'm off to try and learn this thing!
