This is yet another classic here in the UK by the much underated Ray Davies and the Kinks.

Typing the lyrics out for this showed me what a clever tunesmith Ray is.

I learned this fairly quickly, even found myself singing to it ( Oh God!). Its great if you've had a bad day and your slightly fed up! you will learn it in no time.

Use Capo on the Fifth Fret

Intro:
Am/// Am/// E7/// E7///

Verse 1:
Am-------------------G----------
The tax man’s taken all my dough
------C---------------G------------
And left me in my stately home
E7-----------------------------Am
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
--------------G--------------
And I can’t sail my yacht,
------C------------G--------------
He’s taken everything I’ve got,
E7------------------------Am
All I’ve got this sunny afternoon.

Chorus 1:
A7-------------------------------------------D7
Save me, save me, save me from this squeeze,
--------G---------------------------------C----E7
I got a big fat mama trying to break me.
-------Am-------------D7---------
And I love to live so pleasantly,
Am-------------------D7----G
Live this life of luxury,
C-------------E7----------------Am
Lazing on a sunny afternoon
--------E7-----------
In the summertime,
-------Am--------------------E7-----------
In the summertime, in the summertime.

Verse 2:
-----Am-------------------G-----------
My girlfriend’s run off with my car
------C------------------G-----------
And gone back to her ma and pa
E7------------------------------------------Am
Telling tales of drunkenness and cruelty.
-----------G-----------
Now I’m sitting here,
C---------------G-------------
Sipping at my ice cold beer,
E7------------------------------Am
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.

Chorus 2:
A7----------------------------------------D7
Help me, help me, help me sail away,
------------G-------------------------------------C----E7
Well give two good reasons why I oughta stay.
----------Am-------------D7--------
Cause I love to live so pleasantly,
Am---------------------D7---G
Live this life of luxury,
C-------------E7--------------Am
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
--------E7-----------
In the summertime,
--------Am-------------------E7------------
In the summertime, in the summertime.

Chorus 3:
A7-----------------------------------------D7-----
Ah, save me, save me, save me from this squeeze,
--------G---------------------------------C----E7
I got a big fat mama trying to break me.
--------Am-------------D7--------
And I love to live so pleasantly,
Am---------------------D7----G
Live this life of luxury,
C-------------E7-------------Am
Lazing on a sunny afternoon.
-------E7------------
In the summertime,
--------Am-------------------E7-----------
In the summertime, in the summertime,
-------Am--------------------E7
In the summertime, in the summertime.

Outro:

Am/// Am/// Am/// Am////

Repeat to fade out

Enjoy it
Chris

Don't be too hard on yourself, Chris -- Ray's never been known as great vocalist. Songwriter, yes, but world-class vocal talent, not so much. :o

Thanks for the tabwork -- now all I've gotta do is get my wife to learn the tune with me...

Hi, I found this one sounded just great without the capo at the 5th.
Great tune!

Chris, great song mate. I haven't seen this post before, don't know how I missed it.

Anyway if you get fed up with your version, try this in Dm, it includes the famous plodding descending bass intro/fill. As far as the verse section goes, just play an A if your fingers won't manage the A shape and the bassline at the same time!
Intro:

Chris,

Great one, thanks for the effort. You're so right, Ray Davies wrote some great songs. A pretty good sense of humor at times.

Rob

Well I got this guitar and I'm tryin' to learn how to make it talk.
