Ride a White Swan – T.Rex……..

It wasn't all bad stuff that came out of the “Glam Rock” era……

I always did love the little pixie's unique take on Rock'n'Roll……..

This is probably the easiest 3-chorder in the world and is absolutely the easiest rock solo in history………..

If I can tab it it must be easy…!!!

You know I was a huge T. Rex fan. I have the Electric Warrior and Slider CD's now. Many years ago I had almost everything he did.

Marc Bolan never got credit as a great guitar player, but he was. He had a vibrato as good as Paul Kossoff of Free. He was also an excellent rhythm guitar player. He knew how to "Boogie".

I think my all time favorite was "Ballrooms of Mars"

My favourite was always "Jeepster" - they always show the same video on VH-1 in the "Classic rock" bit between 10 pm and 2 am - it was recorded at a concert in (!) Wigan of all places.........

I am in the audience.......the tall feller with the long hair who doesn't so much stand out from the crowd as stand above it.........

and that's why..........

The first concert I ever went to..........aaaaaaaah, happy days!!!!

BTW Wes - didn't Bolan play lead on the original version of Bowie's "The Prettiest Star" - sure I heard that somewhere...........

That's incredible, I've seen that video dozens of times. Until about a year ago I had it downloaded on my computer. I've been looking at you for years! I'll have to find that somewhere and download it again.

I don't know about that Bowie song. But I know Bolan played the guitar on Billion Dollar Babies for Alice Cooper, and a also Hold On on Ringo Starr's solo album in the 70's that had You're Sixteen on it.

There was a bit of rivalry between Bolan and Bowie.

I have got to see Jeepster again. I also liked the Slider and Rock On.

My favorite solo is Buick Mackane!

Just before he died, Bolan had a series (Marc) on TV over here in a very early evening slot.....the last thing he ever did, as the series ended, was play lead for Bowie on "Heroes" I think it was.........

A month later he was gone.......

(They could've been miming but I don't think so - sounded totally different from the recorded version.......)

The sad thing (sic) is that "Ride a White Swan" and "Debora" are absolute classics and what is even sadder that I can remember dancing to them when people danced. My kids now think that both Bowie and Bolan are/were gods !! One has even rediscovered Donovan (Catch the Wind).

I did have Jeepster on a 45RPM picture disc single way back, I still think it was the best TRex single they ever did. Let it go for 20p at a car boot sale a few years back. I know! What a pratt I was.

I posted this May 18th 2004.....obviously prevaljo, our new member from the land of the long white cloud, must have trawled through the back pages and dug it out....welcome, by the way, prevaljo!!!!

Only now have I noticed Jamir's post re Children of the Revolution....I could never work that out a few years ago, but now....hmmm, I do love a challenge! Just had a go at it off the top of my head, doesn't seem too difficult...I'll have to dig out the Greatest Hits CD though and check what key it's in....

(Where's Wes when you need him!!!!)

Got the intro and solo going great but as usual can't get the strumming...Yes I can hear many saying its easy but I'm naff at this.
Can someone please help..
Seen T-Rex in the early 70s at the Newcastle city hall.....great time for music...!
