Oh yeah, Peavey's are famous for being reliable. Marshalls are not. But to be fair you have to consider who and how most Marshalls are played. I mean, Fender amps are mostly used for nice clean tones at reasonable volume. Marshalls are usually cranked.
But the DSL401 & DSL201 were simply designed with a flaw. They have four EL84 tubes (two in the DSL201) which are very hot tubes to begin with. Outstanding clean tone for a Marshall, but they get super hot. These amps really should have been built with a cooling fan. When I took the head out, the circuit board was scorched brown around the tube sockets. The bridge rectifier is very closeby and this seems to be the problem with these amps. The solders get very hot and break down. The volume will fade out and return later. There is actually a site devoted to this very problem with these amps.

Anyway, I want to install the fan as you can see one owner did. It is a great amp with outstanding tone except for this problem. Marshall supposedly corrected this problem in 2003 (mine is an '02), but I have read of amps since '03 having this problem. Just an oversight and poor design.
Should have brought my HRD, she never fails me. :D

As far as the TO800 sounding good with solid state amps, I really don't know as I don't own any solid state amps. :D
And I can't promise that everyone will love this pedal. I think it sounds awesome, the longer I own it the more I play it and like it even better. But I like a thick Blues type tone, others may not. You are not gonna get any kind of heavy distortion from this pedal. It is great for Blues type mild breakup and great lead guitar tone that is very smooth, has excellent sustain and harmonics. But it is not a distortion pedal in anyway at all.
Here is a good video that will show what this pedal does with a tube amp.

Here is another, this is about as heavy a tone as this pedal gets.

But listen carefully and you can hear how smooth this pedal always sounds.
And about an EQ Kevin, I would recommend the Danelectro Fish and Chips EQ to anyone. It works great and costs 1/3 the price of other brands. It is very durable as well.
Excellent EQ pedal.
Thanks. I think I might be purchasing the EQ for sure. Might wait on the overdrive until I get a tube amp. And Wes, that's about as heavy as I like it. And the pedal sounds great on the SRV vid. It's my fave tone, Hendrix/SRV...that blues tone is so nice.

One nice thing about Behringer pedals is the cost. You can pick up a TO800 for about $35 including shipping, so even if you don't like it (doubtful) you are not out much.
When you get a tube amp, then get the TO800. If you like SRV tones, I am sure you will love this pedal.
Yeah, get the EQ, you will be surprised how that helps tighten your tone up. Makes a world of difference.

Yea Behringer's prices are great, for all pedals. Especially the T0800 it seems, reading many reviews. Same with Danelectric, except the Fish and Chips is one of the few great deals I've been reading around it. One thing I love reading about the EQ is how quiet is. I don't think I can handle much more buzzing(my distortion even if I have gain up only a tab even causes a buzz, but then again that could be the 9v adapter). Thanks again very much, Wes.
So yea, I'm pretty much now set on the EQ/overdrive. But the amp...after hearing about the Crate V16 Palomino 15W, I'm even more torn. I really liked the Fender Blues Jr (tried in the store, it's very nice, love the tone compared to my little Roland 15W Cube). Reading reviews, the Crate seems like it's very similar, except for the Speaker and Reverb. The reverb can't echo as much as the fender reverb can, but the speaker is much, much better. It uses a Celestion speaker, and if you read as many Fender Blues Jr reviews as I did, you'd know that atleast 40% of the people that posted those reviews changed the speaker.
But factor in the Crate V16 is $50 and there's no reason to change the speaker, I'm tempted to get that one maybe by the end of the year. Hm.

Last time I was in Guitar Center and purchased my Faded SG, I played it through one of those Palomino amps (I think it was the 30 watt version) and it was a great sounding amp. I liked the clean channel and the mild overdrive a lot. It had a heavier overdrive channel if I remember that I didn't like as much, but I only played it about an hour, I'm sure I could've gotten great tones out of it. I was really impressed with these amps. I have read the reviews on these amps and they are very good, I don't think you can go wrong at all.
I like Celestions too, I love the British tone.

This Seller has excellent feedback, just two negatives and both were because he wouldn't ship to another country.
