i just bought a copy of this book, and even just the intro has helped me to understand theory a little better. but im having trouble understanding the first chart (page 20, i believe) containing the major scale. im at work and i dont have the book in front of me, but if anyone out there has a copy, can you please tell me if theres a misprint on that page? i realize this is vague and i apologize, but if you can just look at the page and tell me 'yep, makes sense to me', i'll at least know im not reading the chart right. as it is, im not sure if i should question my understanding of basic theory, or the accuracy of the book. thank you in advance! Dan.

I don't have the book in front of me, but it makes sense. You've just got to keep looking at it and it will eventually make sense, else you'll quit making sense.

One thing that doesn't really seem to make sense about musical intervals is that you count the first note, too. Going up the major scale, the first note, second note, and the third note, that's a major third. Seems like you've just gone up two notes from the first or root note, but the interval is called a major third. Start looking at semitones (or frets on the fretboard) and you've gone up four frets or semitones from the root note. Just keep looking at this stuff long enough and it'll click eventually.
