Hi all,

I posed this question in a different thread, but I think it would be interesting to see what everybody thinks.

What are we missing in the GuitarNoise Theory section.

Argus says borrowed chords.

Help us make the section more well rounded.

Nick

I was thinking it might be nice if the theory page were divided into categories, like "The Very Basics," "Chord Construction," "Minor Keys," etc. Some articles would obviously overlap, but they could be listed in multiple categories.

I know that this might initially involve more work for Paul, but once the system is in place, perhaps it could be left under the watchful eye of a "theory page volunteer" (hint hint!   ;)  )

Just a thought.

Peace

Harmonizing the major scale?
I think there's something on it in one of the jazz articles but I can't seem to locate it in the theory section.

I'm thinking of a coherent explanation from the recent posts on the matter.

And perhaps you should explain what exactly would a "theory page volunteer" would do?  :)

Simple minds have simple desires, and it may already be there and I've not looked carefully enough.

I'd like a reference chart of chord formulas -- is that already in the chord construction article?

The other reference tables that I'd think people could use easily would be the five pentatonic shapes mapped out on the fretboard and the seven mode shapes mapped out on a fretboard (like the diagrams in Rayman's post that I cite often-- http://forums.guitarnoise.com/?board=theory;action=display;num=1063250647 but for modes and pentatonic shapes).  For me, it was a great leap forward in learning when I learned these shapes.

But I'd see these as references, much like the fretboard maps for guitar and bass (which are indeed already on the site -- but not always easy to find.)

Okay, I've said too much....but you did ask.

I suggested something like organizing the lessons before, and I still think it's a good idea. Id be glad to help in any way I can, but I dont know half the stuff in there, so I'd be the last person youd want catagorizing things.

Hi, Nick!

I know this is more or less a wish list, but consider it genre section.
I've said this in another thread, but some MORE introductory blues in David's, Alan's or your style would be a really great addition (the actual content is already great; more than great actually).

Some more introductory rock and roll? Some Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Larry Williams, Little Richard...?

Some rhythm and blues standard (Money, Route 66)?

Some punk-pop to practice power chords (Green Day, Blink 182, Weezer)?

Thanks

More introductory jazz? If that isn't a contradiction in terms.  Or at least an outline saying slowdown here's where to start and what to pay special attention to.  Fahlings articles a good, but they assume so much.
