So has it been decided that a chord never changes, even if you change key (e.g. Cmaj is the same in C and D), the key just affects your choice if chords?  Do I even know what the problem was?  Am I just hurting this topic?

You got it.

yeah... it all started when i looked at a book, saw a series of 7th chords in C, and noticed they all were from the C major scale..

I checked this with MAJOR scales (big mistake) as the pattern has mostly minor scales to make up the choice of chords..

so this led me to believe all chords changed in every key, it drove me mad and i spent 3 days not being able to read my theroy book because of intense confusion.

Then the problem got solved, i realised where i went wrong.. and we are here.

You made my problem seem so simple, but it wasnt, just thought i should explain.

anyway i think this thread should finish here, nothing more constructive will come of it.

But I think it might win the award for the fastest growing thread I've ever seen on GN!
It was fun while it lasted!   ;)

hehe, it was quite fast growing wasnt it. :)

its my scattered knowledge of theory.. i ask a dumb question, someone explains, and a lot more fits into place then something more complex occurs to me that i dont understand and i ask.

How long have you been playing the guitar, muse?

*isnt trying to keep the thread going, honest*

God I love theory. I could study it all day and still not no 1/1000 of it. Its a real mental workout and I like it.  :) Great topic Alex_

Alex,

I've gotta tell you, it's always the simple ideas that cause the most confusion.

I don't think yours was all that simple though.  It sure made me think.

10 months ago was the first time i picked up an accoustic guitar..

i got an electric  one at christmas..

the 3rd song i learnt was joe satriani's "surfing with alien" (quite a kick-start yes :P)

and i only started learning theory 3 weeks ago because i want to take at for A-level when i go into further education (i start in 3 weeks and want to be prepared).

But some say i have done pretty good for 10 months.

Thats basically my life story.

how old are you nick and muse??

and yes DaSniper, i love theory :P, you have to like it if you want to know it, you cant learn it if you truley dont want to. and the majority of people i know, dont know it. its a shame :(

41, I started playing acoustic about the same time you did.

I played rhythm electric in a band long ago.

Probably closer to a year now. Roughly last August.  September the 5th is when I joined guitarnoise.

The Band?  You are never supposed to ask me about that.  Didn't you read my bio at the bottom of the article? ;D

me, I'm 47.

Still rocking, though, even if it is in a chair sometimes.  Don't have a big wooden porch though.

Started on acoustic but lean a bit more toward electric most of the time.

Actually, the older I get the more I lean.

this has been an informative, if not mind boggling thread.
i have yet one more question for alex.  did you learn the majority of your theory from the complete guitarist? as i have the same book but lack the drive you possess.
just curious what cuold happen if i actually read this book.
thanx wrath
