Hi All ...
been awhile
I recently lost a dear friend to breast cancer. We were both avid windsurfers and had known each other for about fifteen years. She sailed like she lived, with abandon and pure joy and through waves that scared most of the men away. She died eleven days ago and this song tumbled out shortly thereafter. I've posted a demo on Myspace (see below) and would appreciate your take on it before I send it out to hers and my friends as a memorium. All comments appreciated.
I got a call today
an old friend had passed away
after the shock, I gathered my thoughts
who was this friend of mine
chorus
she was our sailing girl
I never heard an unkind word
just a kiss and a hug
for everyone she loved
she was our sailing girl
whenever she heard the wind
the wheels on her car would spin
she'd start to sing like a bird on the wing
"get me to the beach on time"
if heaven exists
we'll see her soon
where she'll lead the way and we'll all go sail
round the back side of the moon
harmonica bridge
chorus
she was our sailing girl
I never heard an unkind word
just a kiss and a hug for those she loved
she was our sailing girl
she was a friend of mine
she was our sailing girl
Thanks

Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.
I really enjoyed the lryics to your song and I think anyone else close to you and your friend will to. You definitly put your heart into it.

Hi Gram,
It has been awhile. Sorry to hear about your loss.
I think this is a very fitting tribute and her friends should
her it.
I like your voice on this.
As Ghost said
You definitly put your heart into it.

Gram,
sorry to hear about your loss, writing a song is a very good way of dealing with it IMO. Well sung & played I enjoyed it, thanks.
I really like the first chorus especially the extra line you put in there,
she was a friend of mine
so much so that if this was mine, I think I might be inclined to change the last chorus to be the same as that first one, that last extra line is VERY powerful.
cheers
Paul
i didn't even notice the missing line. you're absolutely right, it's much better with the extra line. guess that's why we post here.
thanks
