ads on the front page

I was wondering how the ads on the front page are chosen. Is it just a cycle of ads or is it based on cookies or some other method? The reason I ask is that I saw an ad which at best I can describe as "interesting" (e.g. gfizz.com).I guess what I'm trying to say is that when I think of guitarnoise, gfizz.com doesn't jump into my head.A la Seinfeld, "Not that there's anything wrong with that."

Anyone cares to tell me what GFizz is/was?

if you go to gfizz.com you will know. It is not my PREFERENCE (to say the least) to explain it
