Hey!
I was drifting around online guitar shops at lunch time today, and started looking at PRSs. Lovely, but not such nice prices.
Then I noticed a few for about £400. I assume these are the equivalent of Squiers and Epiphones etc.
Anyone got any experience with them? Any good? I'm sort of vaguely thinking about a new guitar (one with a neck humbucker) for around that price, and if they are even near the quality of their more illustrious cousins, they might be worth considering.
I read the reviews on Harmony Central, but as always there were just as many people saying they were crap as saying they were great.
Any comments would be much appreciated.

It's either all or nothing with PRS's man..
Get a credit card and order one.
If there's a way you can try the cheaper ones then do it. But...you might be dissapointed.
I tried the cheaper ones, and it was like playing a PRS rip off.
If you want a good PRS. You're going to have to spend some money.
BUT!!
Don't get me wrong. my first guitar was a Peavey Prediator which cost somewhere around $350.00
And I put new pickups, and all that junk in it, and wore the neck in.
This is just my opinion.
Let's see what other people have to say.
Good luck

You're a god among insects, never let anyone tell you different.
When you're talking cheap guitars, the rule of thumb is "Try before you buy". The first thing that suffers with less expensive guitars is the fine tuned labor: the quality checking guys.
That means it's up to you to get the best you can. Play as many as humanly possible, really get an idea of what's out there, play them both acoustically and amplified, try all their settings, play each of them through a variety of amps, so you really know the tonal characteristics of the guitar.
It probably goes without saying that I recommend not buying cheapo guitars off the internet or out of a catalog, you really have to get hands on to make sure you're getting what you want.
Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life...
Only played one of them, the Santana SE or some such name, so I can't comment on the average quality. Anyway, it seemed a fairly nice guitar, and definitely beyond entree-level. It played smooth, sound was good, finish seemed good. In this price class you have a lot of nice guitars (Yamaha PAC812, Ibanez Prestige series, Dean Hardtail Select, Fender Highway, Epi elitist maybe (quite better then those Faded Gibsons if you ask me), so I can't really say it is a clear winner. But all in all, well worth the money they ask for it.
And don't even think about ordering online. Ever.
The biggest complaints with these seem to be pickup quality, not build quality, but none of the shops around here seem to want to carry them. I'd like to give one a try, even though I'm not a fan of the PRS sound.
Ah, you see - I'm a HUGE fan of the PRS sound, but I had always just assumed I would never be able to afford it.
None of the shops near me stock them either. Which is no surprise, they are completely useless - they never stock anything that I want to try out.
Thanks for those other suggestions, I'll check 'em out. Don't worry, I wouldn't actually order a guitar over the net! It's just like convenient window shopping that's all!!!
Cheers all!

What about Cort - MGM or M600??
I have a PRS Santana SE which I bought off of EBay for $400 last year. It is my second guitar but my first electric so I have nothing to compare it to. I would say, though, that it's a GREAT guitar. the way I think about them is that it's like PRS making knock-offs of their own guitars. I LUV the sound, it plays real good and I got a great price on ebay. check ebay before you buy. you may be able to get an SE pretty cheap.
