Expensive pickups on a cheap Guitar

I have a Brownsville G1 Deluxe Les Paul Copy. The original msrp at Sam Ash was $800, but they now sell them for $200. For the most part, I am happy with the quality. My question is, in general, is it worth it to install better pickups into a guitar that, in reality, is a starter guitar?I'll hang up and listen.
