I've been successfully resisting GAS for several months, but I walked into GC and it hit me. They had an
Artcore 73 for $329, and I really liked the way it looks and feels. Played it for a while, told the sales guy I will be back on Wed. It felt really good, finish was nice, intonation was nice, setup was a little higher than I liked. The sales guy actually said the same after playing it and said he would have that adjusted.

I am not sure I will take the plunge, but it sure appeals to me. I've been thinking about a semi-hollow for a while, but did not find one locally that I really liked. Couple of Ibanez's I found didn't really play well, and the most of the others were high end. I guess I should go play an Epi somewhere..

But, anyway .. comments? Anyone own one of these? Do I get much more if I go to a 77T or an 83S?

(EDIT: If I were to spend about $500-600 on a USED semi-hollow, what are some good choices? Any suggestions?)

Thanks!

Don't know about this model but I have an AG75 that I play all the time almost to the exclusion of the other axes I have which hang on the wall pouting (g) The AG75 has a nice mellow tone, plays very well and I think the fit and finish is great for a guitar of this price range. I can't see how you will be disappointed if they adjust the action to your wants. I say DO IT!!!

Thanks!

The 77T has a tremolo and a 3-piece "deluxe" neck (mahogany-maple-mahogany) while the 73 has no trem and a solid mahogany neck. Play both - the necks do have a different feel, and some would say the deluxe neck gives a slightly snappier tone (open to debate. :) )

The 83S has the deluxe neck and a flame maple top (which is actually sycamore, according to something I saw on the Japanese Ibanez site), and abalone inlays on the neck (whick look great.)

The pickups and electronics are the same in all three. I have the AXD81 which is the single f-hole (Les Paul shaped) version of the 83S. I thought the pickups were too mellow and have since replaced them, but otherwise the Artcores are excellent guitars.

We have the AFS75T at home. It's very well put together and is an absolute beauty to look at. If you want a tremola, you should look into it as the price difference isn't that high.

I saw another Ibanez at the store yesterday. I think it was something like GAX70. It was pretty wide at the nut and had mad low action. (Although I couldn't be sure if it buzzed with that action). Very sweet. I might look into it in the future.

I think Ibanez is at a great point considering price/quality.

Anyway..let us know how it goes. :)

I've got the AF75 but the 73 is awesome as well. Epi didn't impress me much with their lower-class hollows, they have some wicked stuff in the higher price ranges though.

I own a AS73. I really dont think you can beat the price on this semi-hollowbody. You said the action was a little high? Try asking to play another one (if they got it). The action on mine is pretty good. I love mine. I might add that they handle effects very well. A lot of hollow-bodies give you feedback and strange booms and moans, but the artcores don't (at least the AS73 doesnt). Before I bought the ibanez I had been lookin at a semi-hollowbody epiphone (which was the same price). I almost bought it, but luckily I stumbled onto the artcore. I really liked it. I would have never expected Ibanez to come out with such a nice guitar.

Every one of the artcore series i played at MF were really nice guitars imo. i just could not afford one at the time.
i did however get snared by the Oscar Schmidt OE-30

it played every bit as well as the lower end artcores or A-whatevers and was only $149, the epi case was another $49 on sale and i was very happy for under $250 with new strings and a strap thrown in as well

I had a Michael Kelly Patriot Hollow-body (basically a Les paul hollowbody) and it was fantasic. I highly recommend taking a look at a MK hollow-body.

Also, I recently acquired a MINT Schecter CSH -1 and it is the bomb. Binding everywhere, Duncan Designed pups, and flame-maple top. HIGHLY recommend it. It has more of a PRS hollow-body shape. Run about $450 used. Really fine guitar.
