ok i like playing blues style solos, but whenever im playing a lick im sometimes making loads of extra noise. I didnt notice it at first, but then i started recording my solos...
the problem goes away completely if i wrap a sock around the neck but thats lame id much rather learn to mute properly... i was wondering how the pros mute? cos if u want to play on , say, one of the middle strings, how on earth do u mute the surrounding ones and not that one? thats my problem really... gratefull for any help

Hi Happy Housing and welcome to GuitarNoise. Yeah, BikerJim is right, use the side of your picking hand to mute strings you don't want to sound. You can also use your fretting fingers as well.

A sock for the neck of the guitar??? What a novel idea.

Drat. Somebody beat me to it.

You can also use your fretting finger/s to mute the adjacent strings by tilting them slightly and resting them on the strings you want to mute.
