I've been playing my guitar for a few months now. everything seemed to be going fine. i broke a string one day, and decided to replace it wit D'addario 9.5 gages. but now each time a try to play, the thick e-string pops out! all the other strings stay put except for that one string. i could really use some help seeing how i dont want to go to a place like GuitarCenter and be charged an obscene amount for something that might be simple and easy to fix.
if it pops off the nut then you probably wrapped it the wrong way around the post.

could someone offer up a site that shows the proper way to string a guitar? i went through so many and thought i did it properly... i guess not

I'm assuming it's coming out at the bridge? If so put a kink in the string right above the ball and make sure the bend goes toward the neck under the guitar. no need for a severe bend just enough to cause some friction.
Chuck Norris invented Kentucky Fried Chicken's famous secret recipe, with eleven herbs and spices. But nobody ever mentions the twelfth ingredient: Fear!

I also put a slight bend in the string, then I'll hold the pin down while tuning it. Works every time. 8)
Gsage, can you be a bit more specific? Are you talking about an acoustic guitar? Is the bridge pin popping out? If it's a 2nd-hand guitar, well, bridge pins can wear down - but they're cheap enough to replace. Make sure it's well pushed in, and aligned correctly....I usually need pliers to get my bridge pins out when changing strings! It can be a pain, but it's better than a pin popping out while you're playing!
