Well, recently I have just learned to solos. One from the song Trying my luck and the other called Reptilia (both by The Strokes, and I must say I am proud 8) ) But then I got to thinking...I only know one chord, and I spend most of my time learning songs or trying to make them up...am I heading in the wrong direction by not learning chords or other simple techniques first?
What are your goals as a player?
#4491....
try to learn all the basic chords, then go to the major and minor pentatonic scales and the blues scales 8)

I would say that if you're happy with what you're playing and your progress, you can't possibly be doing something wrong.

Any structured guitar-learning programme should include both rhythm and lead, so apart from getting afew more chords nailed I'd carry on the way you are.
