I just wanted the expert opinions on what you think about Takamine. Is it a good brand and is this a good guitar Takamine EG523SC Acoustic-Electric Guitar
I'd really like a wood guitar (I believe this is solid in the back as well).
Oh...and would you rather recommend a Martin?...I've heard good things about those.
Just saw this Body Shape: Jumbo C/A - something I should worry about?
Thanks for your thoughts!

My only limit is more that $500?
How about a Ryan? or an Olson? or a Manzer?
Huss and Dalton?
Froggy Bottom, Collings, Santa Cruz?
Breedlove?
Bourgeois or Lowden?
That's ten to look at and I didn't even mention Martin and Taylor.
How about these:
Northwood, Lakewood, Mossman, Brook, Fylde, Mcilroy
Boaz, de jonge, Everett, Fox, Goodall, Laskin, McCollum, Schoenberg, or Sobell
Do you want something in the $500 ballpark? That's a different story.
This one is $100 more: Breedlove Atlas
If you want a Martin, I have a DX1. It doesn't have electronics but they do make a cutaway version of it with electronics.
I wouldn't part with this guitar for the life of me. It has a solid spruce top, but the back and sides are a one piece laminate, and the neck is a rosin-infused wood of some sort. I bought mine new for $469.
I've played with people who have Washburns, Takamines, Fenders etc, and they all comment on my martin's tone. It's not great for fingerpicking, so if you're into that, i'd consider something else. This thing is built like a Tank and sounds great.
Well...I'm looking for something over 500 dollars that is good quality. I'm planning on sticking with acousitic for the rest of my life :) . I mightest well get something over 500 dollars that is has a great loud sound.
500 - 1000 dollar limit...
The Breedlove Atlas Series AD25/SM seemed nice...but I like how the takamine looks...any other big differences you see in the "technical specs"?..
Oh...and does body shape jumbo..means it is hella huge?
I thought takamine's were real good?..
Jet.
Jumbos are big, bigger than dreadnaughts.
The Breedlove guitars are phenomenal. The Atlas series are korean made with QA handled the exact same way and place as the American made guitars.
I would stay well clear of Taks but i hate the things. I have a Lowden O10 Cedar and Mahogany jumbo, it is a fantastic guitar great volume and a fantastic tone. I have a taylor 310ce which is a good versatile guitar with a good workable tone, but the Lowden blows it away. If you are serious about one you might struggle a bit the company changed its name to Avalon a couple of years ago after George lowden left. Avalon now produces good guitars in most price ranges, although the premier range is pretty similar to the old lowdens. they are still made in the same factory in Ireland. these things arnt cheep though if your lucky and find one second hand your looking at £850 GBP, but people tend to keep hold of them. New, the top end starts at £1600 GBP I think, and i dont think it will be any cheeper over in the states, as they are hand made in Ireland. If you do buy one though you wont regret it. Listen to me i should be on the payrole.
Thanks for the help...
Nick..i'm going to go with the Breedlove Atlas Series AD25/SM :)
Looks like a great guitar. I'm ordering it right now...in about a week or two i'll post my thoughts on it.
Thanks!
Jet.
I can connect this to an amp right?
yes you can indeed.
Tacoma, all solid wood, made in america, unbelievable sustain. The DM9 is between $600 & $700 (solid mahogeny with a solid spruce top). They come with a sellection of 3 or 4 different pickups (costs extra). I love my DR14LH. A Martin of the quality of the Tacoma DM9 would cost well over a grand, imho. Give one a test drive I think you'll be sold.

Tacoma guitars are indeed great. The setup is often suspect in the lower end models, so get it adjusted before you make your final opinion.
Musicians friend has this backordered. I placed an order 2 weeks ago :( .
I decided to get it from samedaymusic. They are shipping it here next day air. The total came to 667.00 shipped.
I had a question about another breedlove that goes for 2nd day free shipping their.
Is the Breedlove AC25SR Plus Atlas much different from the Breedlove AD25SM Atlas? I belive the Plus one, has a rosewood back and it goes for 133$ more. Do you think it's worth the extra 133$?
Depends on what your looking for? All of the woods used in acoustic guitar making have different tonal qualities. I believe rosewood is said to produce a darker tone than say mahogany. Rosewood is also more expensive than a lot of other woods. I have a solid rosewood guitar with a spruce top and love its sound. I have a friend who has the same series guitar as me, but his is made of Mahogany. There is, a difference in the sound of the two.
