I'm checking with the wife and as long as we don't have anything planned, I'm going. I'll take the new Tele (he's already seen it, that's when he mentioned jamming together sometime) and my DRRI and have some fun. 8)
Thanks again for letting me vent a little. I hate, hate having things like this hold me back from doing things.

Great, now that you have decided to go be sure to let us all know how it was ( does that read right? )
The only thing that keeps me from realising my full potential is the depressing awareness that it wouldn't take much time or effort...
Jason,
You'll do just fine. Just have some fun man! 8)
Crank it up & jam!!

Jason:
I know exactly how you feel. Whenever my good buddy, Michael Jordan, invites me to his home to shoot some hoops, I always decline because I am nervous that he will look down on me.
What? You don't believe I know Michael Jordan? Well, you are right - I don't!
BUT, if I did, and he did invite me over to shoot, I would expect that he would know that I am no where near his level of talent with a basketball. And since he would be my friend, I would know that the primary reason he wants me to come over, is because he likes my company. If he turned out to be the kind of guy who would humiliate me because I am so obviously an amateur, then I would have to re-evaluate if he is the kind of guy I want as a friend.
It is funny that, as I get older, I am much less worried about being embarrassed, etc. I guess that is one of the good things about aging!
Also, I can tell you that, true experts in any field, don't need to look down on less experienced people in the same area. In fact, you will find that true experts are more likely to want to share their skills, knowledge and experience with others, just as experts did for them years ago. It is the guys/gals who aren't really the experts they think they are, who feel good about humiliating or looking down on someone. Just check out all the experts here who ALWAYS are willing to answer questions, assist, etc. - and do so without any comment on your lack of experience.
Go have fun, enjoy the experience, don't offer any excuses, and learn humbly!
I am sure you are an expert in an area his is much less experienced - he can learn from you too.

Great post and point well made!
I built his personal website because he's not a "computer guy". So yeah, I see what you are saying. :)
I'll be sure to give the report. Maybe I'll even have a clip to post. He's got a pretty cool studio setup.

And when I'm feelin' blue, the guitar's comin' through to soothe me ~
Or don't go and regret that for the rest of your life. It's always an option...
Exactly! Thinking about it is usually worse than doing it.
Let 'er rip, Crank!
Jamming with just a drummer strikes me as a great time. You'll probably play lines that never occurred to you before. Enjoy!
Don
I am with everybody else, GO. :D
You say he knows you have been playing a short while, so he's not expecting you to be a guitar virtuoso. He must like you and enjoy your company. Go jam and have a great time.
And Chris (Cnev) is embarrasing me. I am just a regular guitar player, nothing special at all. The only way to get experience playing with others is to go play with others. Everyone is at a different level, you are always going to be playing with someone with less experience, or more experience than yourself.

The wife gave me leave, so I've emailed him and said I'd see him at 7. :)
I'll take a chord book for those pesky chords I don't know and my scale book. I can pretty much do everything I might need to do with those two books. :)
And just so you all know, just releasing my issues on here and your posts has not only helped, but I'm now looking forward to it. I look forward to my weekly jam sessions and this one is no different. :)

Jason, Don't go. You'll regret it. No one here understands the pressures and stigma that goes into being in the same room with a drummer. They all drink milk.
DON'T GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The most amazing thing I've discovered about drummers is that very few can keep time.
No notes to play, no chords or progressions to remember.... just gotta keep time.
