Great news, Margaret. Glad it all worked out.
Good to hear as well your local shop wanted to do right by you.
Congrats!

Hey Ken, surely you meant to imply no similarity between a PRS and a POS?

Great news Margaret.

Is it like having a new guitar all over again?

Enjoy.

Hi Margaret - just read the thread and I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying the Strat again. While the end was a happy one, I must say that I find it amazing that a preofessional guitar shop couldn't get the action as low as you wanted. I would definitely think twice about having them perform a setup in the future.

But you can't even see the "adjuster end of the rod" on this guitar. It's recessed way down inside that dark hole where you insert the wrench, just above the nut. You put the wrench in there and operate blindly.

I have a couple like that. I lay the guitar on my wifes ironing board (where I do all my setup and repairs) and I squat down behind it with a flash light holding the allen wrench like it is a laryngoscope and I'm getting ready to intubate somebody. I do try to lable my wrenches but sometimes I'm not as good about it as I should be.

Thanks, everybody.

You're right, Dali, I won't be taking any guitars there for setups in the future, even though it is a reputable shop.

The shop told me they had it set to specifications (and I realize that specs are probably a range, not just one value), and that if they lowered it any more there would be buzzing issues, etc. Since it was a change to heavier strings and they are a professional shop, I didn't know what else to do but believe them, until it sat around for so long unplayed that I figured even if I had to go back to 9s, I had to do something.

Yes, Chuckster, it is just like having a new guitar all over again. :D 8)

All's well that ends well.

Ric-o,
No, nothing like that.
What's a POS guitar anyway????
I'm not familiar with that one....?
Oh, you must mean like TR's guitar.... A Potty Seat!

No - Just giving Margaret a hard time bein' the dyed in the wool Fender guy that I am.
Though I am thinking of sayin' my Strat has a similar problem to see if Santa brings me a real nice PRS :D
I'm sure it'll be hard to suffer through it (with a grin on my face and all)... I think I could manage it though.

Good choice for an ending.

Not only is it a POS but it sounds like crap too. I do refer to it as the "Pottycaster". Actually, it don't sound bad. 8)

Make sure you let that shop know that you have informed all of the guitar players you know on and off-line about their botched work. If nothing else it should shake them up enough to understand that you don't screw the people who pay your bills.

Glad to hear it's not stripped out and now you have low action.
