I've never had a floating bridge, I'm a beginning guitar player..I've had a squire '51 and I've been playing that for a good 4 months. Anyway, for a birthday present, one of my friend bought me a Ibanez RG120, which has a floating bridge (so I'm told..I'm not really familiar with floating bridges). Anyway, the guitar definitely looks nice, and came with D'addario strings. My friend told me to change them to DR 12's because he likes how they sound, and considering he's a lot more experienced than I am, I decided to it (that and the fact I didn't really like the D'addario's..don't really know why.)

Ok haha, anyway. When I used the whammy with the rio's it did fine, the strings where all in tune, and no problems with the whammy. As stated before I didn't like the rio's and bought a pack of DR 12's and strung up my guitar, and tuned it to standard. The problem is the bridge is actually lifted a lot higher than it was on the other strings. The white (I don't know what to call it) part under the bridge is clearly visible. It is now impossible to use the whammy, because it scrapes across the volume and tone knobs. The bridge is just lifted a lot higher than normal and it's slanted to the left. Did I screw up the bridge or what?

p.s Excuse me if I got any guitar terminology wrong, I'm sadly still a newbie.

Basically you were probably using a smaller set of strings before, after upgrading to 12s you're adding more tension to the bridge. I doubt there's anything wrong with the bridge but I would de-tune it until the bridge returned to the proper position and take it in for a set-up (which can cost from $30 - $50).
