I have an Ibanez Artcore AS73 and I need to change the pots for the volume and tone knobs. There isn't an access panel so has anyone found a good guide to replacing the electronics through the f-hole?

What you need to do is use long (50cm) bits of natural-fibre string. Take the knobs off the posts, loosen the nut, holding the pot in place, wet the last few inches of a piece of the string and tie it tightly to the stem of the post (the dampness will hinder any slippage that might occur with dry string - natural fibre holds water and stops slippage better). Tie the other end of the string to a large rubber grommet or something similar, to stop the end of the string disappearing into the guitar's body. Beers like Grolsch have a wired ceramic cap that uses just such a grommet, so you can kill two birds with one stone. :D :D Now undo the nut and let it slide down the string.

You will probably need a hook (an bent wire coat hanger will do nicely) to hook the wires out of the f-holes and, then, draw the pots out (also through the f-holes). Replace the pots, put the string onto the stem of the new pot. When all pots have been replaced, you can draw them back into place, using the string. As you threaded the nut onto the string, you can just drop it down and tighten a couple of turns. When all are in place tighten down and remove the string.

Don't forget to protect the surface of your guitar and maybe even use decorator's masking tape on the edges of the f-holes.

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.

Good idea!

Thanks a bunch, I'll try that once I work up the nerve and some free time. -_-
