I recently bought a Korean made knock-off of a Gibson hollow body electric guitar (ES350) for my 13 year old son. It did not come with a case. I ordered a case from an internet store. The advertisement very clearly listed the dimentions of the bouts and waist, and I figured that the guitar being 1/2 inch over on the top and bottom bouts would not hurt. Well, the case meets the advertised dimentions exactly.

The guitar is an extremely tight fit, but I can get the lid closed. The case is for a deeper guitar, so I set the guitar at a slight angle which helps get the case closed. I have to firmly squeeze the case sides together to get the last side-mounted clasp closed. The closed case exerts very firm pressure on the guitar, not crushing, but pushes firmly and unevenly against the body sides. Even tilted in the case, I don't think it is putting uneven or unusual pressure on the neck or head of the guitar.

Will long term storage in the case hurt the guitar, given the constant pressure? How firmly should a case hold a guitar? Let's assume it is kept in a cool, humid house.

I would love it if his guitar was so busy that it never saw the inside of the case. Unfortunately, recent poor judgement on my son's part has turned the August birthday present into a potential December Christmas present, and storage for a few months, preferably in the case, is necessary. Basically, I wonder if it will warp under constant, firm pressure.

I wouldn't worry about snug, it should be side to side and the top should touch the guitar so there is no movement up and down in the case.

Just how much pressure are you applying though? Try closing the latches in the reverse order, starting at the neck and working down.

I don't think you have anything to worry about for storage purposes, but I might not travel with it like that in a plane.
