TRGuitar's:
Praise: Some nice harmonics in here! Embodies metal for me...
Tip: You appeared to have a slightly muffled sound for the lead which was quite distracting at times. :? Otherwise, my only other thought was- are you 100% sure you're fretting that main hook right? Or in tune on that string? Because somethign didn't quite settle right..
Was bending the string for a heavy metal dissonance. Nope, in tune, right note. The vibrato makes like a chorus effect. Think Zakk Wilde. Sorry you didn't like it. The muffling is known as palm muting. I wanted a percussive chunk to compliment DanT's part. I could have not done these, but it wouldn't have been metal. :?

dissonance is GOOD in metal - I know what you mean TR, I managed to get couple of double-string bends in that sounded OK. Trouble was , I forgot where i was on the fretboard and the next passage was out of tune.....
I learned quite a bit from this jam.....I know now, I have to practise some scales, I have to learn them inside out, forwards and backwards. But then again - I've already learned my limitations. I'd rather someone else played lead - I'm happy playing rhythm. Gimme the chords, I'll work 'em in!
And if I didn't say it before - Dan, thanks for taking the time and trouble to host this jam. You definitely ROCK!
Maybe I'll come up with a good backing track one of these days......

Thanks Vic .. Well .. my son and I are, well we're us. What does this mean? It means we don't take critisism well. Tell us what's wrong with this please if you will. Oh, ...... 2 takes each. We wrote the backing track and did that in one take. :P Once again, much Miller Light was consumed in the composition of this piece.
Oh .. wait, this doesn't really go here, so I'll start a thread for it.

I know we went and already played over it, but if anyone likes I can make the backing track available. And as mentioned above by Vic, THANKS Dan ... you do rock!

I remixed mine a bit. I brought the bass and backing track down a bit so the guitar comes through better now :D Couldn't do much about the bass(to lazy to redo it  ) but it does have a few timing issues
here is a link . this has a higher bit rate(256kbs) you should be able to listen or download from here with no problem.

I really liked everyones effort :D I found something cool in all of them.
OWA: Keep it up!! some nice stuff coming through. I really liked 1:15 also.
Hue: I liked the slide part also. Sort of an 80's metal feel. Also liked the the tempo change, it works well .
Celt: Very moody, I'm going to have nightmares for a week
Chuckster:Nice tone, 2:10 was my favorite part also.
Kalle: Nice bass, I should have had you do my bass part  I wonder how it would go with hues?
Dan:Sweeeeet! Nice flow, nice use of multi tracking :D
TR/Thunderfingers: Great live performance!! Good timing and I didn't notice any mistakes. Hope you didn't get whiplash from head banging :D
Vic: I could hear a lot of 60's influence including some Status Quo I believe. Nice job
Thanks for posting this Dan, it was a blast to do. Also thanks Clazon for the honest critique  I'll take your advice and rock steady 8)

Everybody has done a very good job on the different versions.
My simple Bassline is more or less just following the chord changes.
But maybe I should have played one octave higher.
The low notes (low A and G) is difficult to hear with normal small monitors.
I can only hear them with headphones...

I listened to TR's again to see if I was missing something.
I realise now that the semi rhythm/lead part is palm muted. However usually I thought it was a bit sharper?
As for the dissonance thing. I still don't get it. :? My loss I guess...
I still like the harmonics though. :D

OWA
Good progress you're showing. Much nicer variety of note lengths and phrasing. Don't shoot me but parts of it had much more of a Jimi vibe then actual metal. :P As a suggestion you might want to spice up the longer notes with some controlled vibrato. Anyway, good job!
Hue
Nice, but in all honesty I've heared better from you I think. Your technique is still apparant but it comes over as slightly forced, or even un-inspired. Only suggestion I can give is to play backings that you like better. ;)
Celt
Why play metal when you can play New Age? :D Strange, very strange. Can't really offer suggestions because it strays so far from 'normal' music. Maybe keep some sort of repeating pattern more obvious in the forground. Anyway, it sure was interesting.
Chuckster
Cool! Nice tone, fine licks. Had a Gilmour-feel to it, kinda. Maybe some more direct and aggresive licks at the end would have made it a bit more varied but very well executed nevertheless!
Dan
That's trippy man. It's probably a bit too wet but I'm a total reverb/delay junky so I love it. Good 'improvised' feel to it, spontaneous yet structured. Your bends are pretty much spot on as well, good job!
Ken
Good to see the Dog is still going strong. Have to admit I'm not too wild on the actual tone but the licks are great, the vocal adlibs sit nicely as well. Nice one!
TR
Now THAT's metal. :D Some good solid licks, nice harmonics, I can see you're at home here. But if I'm allowed: the 'metal dissonance' of the tritone interval is quite something else then what I hear here, parts are simply out of tune. Apart from that, such intervals must be placed in a way that they make not just melodic but also harmonic sense: you don't see Kirk shredding augmented chords over James' powerchords, for example. So the only suggestion I can give is to keep a closer look on the function of the notes within the music, as well as it's use in the melodic context.
Vic
Cool man, that spells progress. :D Nice phrasing, good attention to the notes, little to complain. Only suggestion would be to think *less*, and the way you can do that is by actually thinking *more*. I'm pretty sure that if you keep going the way you are you'll be able to pull of what you do now with far less conscience thought, which would automatically make it sound a bit more 'easy going''. keep on rocking!
And finally, because I hate to be criticising from the back without showing some balls myself:
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=361288&songID=5476411
I found it a pretty tough backing, there just doesn't seem to be too much happening at any given point. But whatever, excuses are for wimps. ;)
Thanks for your honesty Arjen. I totally agree. Fully uninspired. I just couldn't find the groove. Or I got lazy. Or both.
