Not sure if this is the best place to post this query, but here goes.
We need to invest in a pocket-sized metronome tuner for my daughter who will be drum major for her high school marching band starting this summer. It must have both functions, metronome and tuner, in one unit, and must be small. Must be user-friendly, too.
Definitely needs to be under $100. The less expensive the better, as long as it fills the bill and functions well.
Does anyone here have any experience with any particular model?

This page from Musician's Friend has several choices. I like to buy locally when possible, but don't really expect to find this range of options around here. And I'd like to know what to look for when I go shopping.
Any advice/direction would be appreciated. Thx!

I've been looking for a good metronome, recently. For $100 you can something really splendid, good ones come at around $40-50. There are some specifically designed for drummers, as well.
To get an idea of street price, do a search on ebay for "drummer metronome tuner" or similar. To get an idea of popularity do an advanced search for the same, but set the option of "Only completed items" and you get to see what have sold and at what price.
I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

I think that the Arion UM 70 Tuner/Metronome looks OK.
It can be used with an earphone and is pocket size ( not a small pocket).
I have read the manual and it seems simple to use and setup.

Thank you, greybeard and Kalle, for your responses.
I'm glad I won't have to spend $100 on this to get a decent one. :D
The Arion UM 70 does look pretty good. The description says it is appropriate for tuning various instruments. As drum major she will be responsible for tuning and conducting the entire band throughout the competition performances.
I hadn't thought about being able to use a headphone/earpiece with it. That's a great feature. And the display is large enough for ease of reading.
Thx again!

On another note, here is a tip for her. When in high school band, I was what we called "Band Captain" my senior year, basically the highest rank, responsible for discipline (the band officiers were allowed to make band members do push-ups :D) and teaching the younger ones how to march. I would imagine that she will have some similar duties.
For teaching others how to march, a pair of drumsticks is a MUST! After the first day of preband with my hands numb from clapping time all day, I picked up a cheap pair at a local shop. The next day the other officiers saw it and went on their lunch break!
The headphone idea for keeping time is a great idea, btw. She could run it under her uniform and even use it while on the podium for performances. I wish our drum majors from back then would have had one; they had a tendency to not count the band off at the same tempo from one show to the next!
Banre,
Those sound like some good tips that I'll pass along to her.
Looks like my checkbook is going to be out a lot. I got informed that she "needs" to go to drum major camp, 4 days, 3 nights, for $270.
But I'll admit I'm very excited for her. She had to try out for the job and beat out seven other wannabes. It's a position of status. The drum major is the only band member whose name is announced along with the Director's, and the drum major represents the band in accepting awards at the end of competitions, etc.
And she will surely learn alot about music and leadership in the process. Priceless! :D
I have to brag that our little school district was recently named as one of the top 100 school districts for music education by the American Music Conference. Pretty cool.
