Hi Guys :)

Anybody here use a Boss DS-1?

I've been tinkering with mine (in between trying to get a nice clean sound, trying to learn scales, trying to work out where my thumb should go, oh yeah - and finding out that I'm developing RSI from mouse-work at work!!) and I can't seem to find a tone that I like.

So, if you use a DS-1 what settings do you like/use the most.....and why.....?

Worse still, is that if you play them forwards they will install Windows.

I had one, sold it. I tried all I could but it just kept sounding somewhat harsh and sterile. To be perfectly honest, I have that with a lot of Boss products.

I've had one for a couple of months and about the only useful thing I have found for it so far is to use it as a boost pedal. You can't really go past 12 on the tone without it sounding really brittle and harsh like Arjen said, the distortion sounds more like overdrive to me unless you peg the knob and palm mute, then it sounds a little like a fuzz box (just a little). I was thinking about trying one of the mods for it over the summer when I have a little more time. I'd also probably have a bit more luck with it if I had an equalizer to put after it to shape the sound better. :D

Life's journey can be hard at times, but you have to realize that you are the only one with the power make it a worthwhile experience.

Hmmm.....I think I'm going to have to give modding it a go then, I was hoping to get a half decent sound out of it as it is first though.

NVM - it's all an experiment I suppose.....

I have heard the super overdrive was a better sounding pedal.

I suppose the problem is that it's difficult to choose a pedal based on recommendation as far as the sound goes - everybody wants something different.

What I actually want is a variation between the sound that Slash gets in Sweet Child Of Mine and the sound that Gary Moore (just dicovered him by the way......WoW!!) seems to get all the time.

TBH though, if I could achieve a sound even somewhere close to Gary Moore I would be very happy :)

the manager down at my nearby MF made an offhand remark that Boss was making cheap substandard stuff lately, he actually refered to them as Rolands "junk".
i was quite surprised as i had always thought of them as one of the premiere effects manufacturers. he said it started a few years back and has not improved.

Well....here's a picture of one of Mr Moores' setups.....

And another.....

Anybody able to help me identify these pedals? A couple of them look like Boss ones but other than that I haven't got a scooby.

The little 'whitish' one in the top photo looks like a Marshall bluesbreaker

Yeah, could be - thanks for that.

I've heard that he sometimes uses a BB but wasn't sure if that was likely to be it or not,

Slash has his own signature wah out now, with I believe built in distortion.
