I was just reading an article in the new Guitar Techniques magazine about Dweezil Zappa and he said he uses Cornford amps. He is going on a "Zappa Plays Zappa" tour and was looking to create his father's tone but Frank's rig was custom made so it was difficult to create the same tone. I did a google search and they seem VERY expensive (over $1000) but the sound clips sound FANTASTIC! Are these strictly European amps?

Thanks

Yes, Their great sounding boutique amps. They are a worthy investment.

That's the second time I've seen that word used - "boutique".

What does it mean in the context of guitars?

Rumour has it that if you play Microsoft CDs backwards you will hear Satanic messages.

Worse still, is that if you play them forwards they will install Windows.

"Boutique" means small numbers of very high class equipment. Cornford is a British maker (HQ is Whitstable) that makes top quality gear, using hand-wiring, etc.. I think that their prices start at around £5-600.

Cornford Harlequin - £499 (just short of $900). Single ended class A, 6 watt amp!

I started with nothing - and I've still got most of it left.
Did you know that the word "gullible" is not in any dictionary?

That it is rare, which means three things:

1) It's expensive
2) Most of us have never ever seen it
3) Most of us assume it is super because noone has ever seen it

Take dumble amps. On every guitar forum people are drooling about getting one but how many *really* have been able to compare it with other amps? Not to say that they aren't good, but take anything that's said about boutique amp on the internet with a truckload of salt.

Cornford, however, are good, very very very very good. Wonderful, creamy overdrive, glistening cleans, and a high end like a woodwind instrument.

Horribly expensive, it's true, but if you happen to have the money knocking around I can think of few better ways to spend it 8)

Just to add - none of which would deflect me personally from the good processor/good plain clean amp route that I've settled on. But for true tube lovers, Cornford are right up there with Matchless and Carr.
