Ive just started playing again seriously, and my 10 year old TransTube Bandit is just not up to it anymore.
I've been looking into 2x12 combos, and of course the Behringer GMX212 is all over the place at an insane price. The majority of reviews I see are the kind of mindless praise 90% of everything gets online, so I'm looking for some honest opinions from players who have used or own this amp.
I am looking for something with a good basic clean sound, and a power section strong enough to deal with drums. My drummer uses a Premier Genista stage set, so it tends to be LOUD. The TransTube Bandit, which could keep up with most drum kits when cranked, just fails at even being heard against that kit. It would be nice if the power section didnt color the tone too much at higher volumes, but at that price I wont complain if it does a little bit.
I honestly done give a rats hindquarters about the modeling/efx/OD channels, since I will use my MT2 and various ancient rack gear. I like to run into the MT2, then into the amps clean channel, with the rack gear in the effects loop.
The speakers are my biggest concern. I've heard mixed things about Jensen, and the low price makes me suspect they may be low quality.
I have also found a model at a few stores called the GM212, which seems to be the same amp without the efx section. Anyone with direct experience with this model is strongly encouraged to reply!
BTW, I'm new, first post and all. so Hi!!
come on now, surely SOMEONE has this amp??
dont be shy!!
Hi, welcome to GN.
I have the GMX212, and it has served me well. The rock/distorted sounds are awesome, amazing for it's money. The clean is good too, but not as loud as you would expect. The speakers are no prob at all, the effects are barely useable. If you're into rock/classic rock (it doesn't do death-metal too well..) I'd suggest you go for it. If you're into either prestine clear or uberdistorted sounds there are better choices.
I don't know the GM212 myself, but looking at the specis I'd go for that one and get the effects seperately.
