I guess it depends on how much changing you do while playing.

The V-amp2 has 5 presets in each bank (20+ banks) that you can move between using the foot pedal. As long as you aren't changing the amp model there isn't any noticable delay or muting. Each preset can have different levels, drive, eq and effects with no problem.

And I got mine from E-bay for $50+shipping.
Not much of a risk at that price.

Basically i wouldn't want to do much switching between amps, just between say a clean sound to a heavy sound. Thanks.

A V-Amp would work fine there I would think. I've jammed with them and switched betweenn 2 and 3 settings multiple times during one song and it worked great.

Another option to get around any swithcing delay is to have 2 v-amps and one of those little inexpensive A/B switch boxes. Have each v-amp on a dedicated model and just switch between them with the A/B. Plus, while playing one of them, you have the time to select another model on the other v-amp before switching over to it; be like having a 'preview' mode.

I have a v-amp 2 and I really like it. It has really made my amp sound a lot better. I have a couple solid state amps a Marshall 15 watter and a Fender 100 watter and it sounds great through both of those. It does a good job of emulating the other amps and makes my playing more enjoyable. I didn't have a particular sound I was looking for, I just wanted a bunch of sounds to try out, and something that was expandable. I don't think I could have gotten anything better for $100. I am very happy and it has set aside my GAS for a tube amp for a little while, although I catch myself looking every once in a while...

Well I went to the music store today and they told me that the don't carry the Behringer V-amp's anymore because of too many complaints about them; according to the guy there they aren't reliable and are hard to fix. After telling me that he proceeded to show me some of the POD's that I looked at a couple days prior  . I think they had a Digitech RP multi-fx pedal there though, which I'm thinking of trying out since i'm kind of more interested in getting something like that, where i can switch sounds more easily, compared to a POD where I don't even think they have footswitches. Plus the digitech has some pretty cool artist presets on them and appears to have the same amount of effects that i would use from the Behringer V-amp.

The POD has a footswitch, but it's pretty expensive. As for reliability, my V-amp was originally a V-amp1, has switched users three times, has survived an EPROM update and goes with me to band rehearsal every week. Unreliable my foot. :)

In any case, think long and hard about the RP: it's really one of the worst and most prehistoric of all options you've got. Lots of effects and presets but they all stink. You'd be way better off with a Zoom GFX or G2U or Digitech GNX series.

Well, I'll be honest with you, I played the RP80 today and I was actually impressed with it, unfortunately I was hoping I could trade in 3 of my pedals for the RP80, but the guy told me he'd only give me $90 in credit for it (they charge $130 (canadian) for the RP80). I dunno, I guess it'll be either the V-amp or the digitech RP (either the 80 or the 200A).

Basically I want to be able to have only a couple of tones:

Hendrix Fuzz
SRV overdrive/clean sound
Smooth Jazz (sort of like a clean sound with a bit of reverb and chorus)
Metallica Metal
EVH echoey overdrive

I also like the synth and the volume swell preset on the RP80, I'm just not 100% sure if you can edit the presets on the RP80. Thanks for the advice though Arjen, I'm gonna think about because I really don't want to spend more then about $150 right now, so I'll think about both the V-amp and the RP and see which one i would want.

Mine is also used, bought it on eBay for cheap. I haven't done the EPROM update, I can't seem to come across a way to get one in Canada.

It is reliable, however, the part of the power supply cord that goes into the amp broke. I bought a new piece, and me and my father tried to fix it, but it was too small. His friend at work, who is also an electrician fixed it in like 2 minutes.

DITTO Here....

I've owned an RP100A
Also owned a V-Amp II

When I first got my Vamp I didn't play it for a long time because I couldn't quite figure it out, but I put in about 2 hours one day and it was easy. I never again touched the RP.

And yes the VAMP does have a foot switch.

I consider my V Amp 2 to be one of the best bits of gear I have ever bought. I use it with headphones, into PC speakers and into the FX return jack on my amp (hence just using the power amp section) and it sounds brilliant. Its just so versatile and the illuminated encoders are incredibly easy to use and set. Some of the amp models aren't to my tasted but most are, the Marshall hi-gain, Vox and Mesa are particularly good. ALso love the JC120 clean and the Blackface twin. All this and a footswitch and bag included. Cant recommend it highly enough for home/jam use.

The long delay when you swith between presets on the V-Amp 2 can be avoided if you don´t change between speakers cabinets.
Just changing between gain/distorsion, tone control and FX settings is fast.

Sorry guys...I really don't mean to beat a dead horse but...

I have been reading about the V-Amp 2 and it seems pretty much what I am looking for.
Small, variety of effects, amp modeler, low cost, etc. I also understand its limits.

But I have also looked at the Zoom G2.

Of the two, which is more recommended. I would only be able to try the Zoom at my local store.

I tend to play modern worship music in my church but most of playing is under headphones and late at night (I have 2 kids under the age of 4). My influences are U2, Delirious, R.E.M., etc. I have tried some multi's but the presets all seem to heavy in distortion for what I would use. I am ready for tweaking settings and the like.

Thanks for advice.

I own the V-amp2 and have little experience with the Zoom. Based on the tech sheets of both the Zoom should have higher quality models and the reviews of it have been very positive. You probably would enjoy either of them.

Ah, a double post. In order not to let the space be wasted I'll copy&paste the latest news from Canada, for your reading pleasure:
MONTREAL (CP) - The owner of a new American Basketball Association team in Quebec City has defended his decision to use a cartoon frog in the new team's logo.
