I have a small Behringer amp and am very pleased with it for practice.
Now I am looking to upgrade a little and I am torn between 2 Behringer amps in the less than $300 category.

The Behringer V Ampire LX 112 and the Behringer V Tone GMX212. Both of these seem to have a lot of features and I have heard the first one and it sounded pretty good.

My question is for just $10 more should I go for the GMX212?

What if any is the benefit of one over the other?

I had to make the same choice last year. To make it short: the GMX212 by FAR outclassed the V-ampire. While the GMX has corny effects the basic sounds are really nice and diverse. It's LOUD on distortion settings, has two proper speakers and a host of connection options.

The V-ampire has far better effects, can store much more presets, has 10x as much amp models and 4x as much cab sims. But the basic sound simply doesn't live up to what behringer claims it to be. It sounds plastic, sterile and liveless, the exact same flaws of the Line6 Spider amps. Now I know many speak highly about these amps, but I just couldn't like the sound.

Now here comes the weird bit: I've owned a V-amp2 for a long time. I knew how to tweak the v-ampire when I tested it. And I simply couldn't get the correct sounds of it. I still occasionaly use the V-amp2 on my GMX and it sounds FAR better then the V-ampire. Guess they had to cut corners somewhere with the speaker or something like that.

If I were you I'd get the GMX, and if you care, the V-amp2. The V-amp is new $99 and can be had used for about 50. That means you can spend $60 more and end up with both the GMX and V-ampire pre-amp and the superior GMX speakers.

On another note: I'd recommend a Vox AD30VT even more. I've bought this amp after buying the GMX (Still have the Behringer) and the Vox simply has a superior sound AND proper effects. It's only 30W and has one 10" speaker, but it has no probs at all cutting through with both bands I'm in. One is a jazz band and one is a modern rock band, so it really needs to put out some serious volume at times.

proper volume, great sound quality=Vox
LOUD Volume, connection options, decent sound quality=GMX212
many options, proper volume, bad sound quality=V-ampire.

Thats more feedback than I expected. So now you have me torn between the VOX and the GMX. Time to do a little more reading before I head back to the store. Got enough stores around here that I can get my hands on most anything so time for that window shopping part.

Thanks
