I have a combo amp that for some reason the internal speaker doesn't work. The amp is powerful enough to drive a 4x12 cabinet I have, but I would like to get the internal speaker working for portability reasons. Could it just need a new speaker? I have made sure the wires are connected.

Any ideas on what to test? And, if necessary, where to get a replacement speaker?

Depending on the brand of amp some amp companies put less than perfect or top end speakers in their amps to cut costs. Celecstion, jensen, Eminence to name a couple are geat sounding speakers. The speaker you put in as a repalcement can have a big effect on how the amps sounds and plays.

Seems like the easiest way to test whether the speaker was at fault would be to connect a know working speaker of proper impedance in it's place. If you've got something handy you might do that before shelling out $$ for a new speaker.

I've got a Fender Frontman 25 combo amp that I've thought about replacing the speaker in to see if it sounds better. Not a bad amp but I bet the stock speaker's not exactly the cream of the crop. Anybody out there who's done this and can tell me if it's gonna' be worth my while, or any knowledge on what the stock speaker is to begin with?
