Well that's good news! So how long are you hoping it'll be before things are back to normal? I was about a month before I could even hold a barre chord down....that finger stubbornly refused to co-operate for a while! Try not to get too frustrated if everything doesn't come back straight away, it will come back in time.

I hopefully should be fine by August, maybe playing in 4 weeks and riding VERY conservatively in 3 :D

It's good to hear you're doing good b'y. You'll be playing and riding again before you know it.

Well, WyleSmyde said it, and Ricochet said it, and I'll echo it - now might be good time to start with slide guitar. It isn't going to hurt your hand much, and it's another way of looking at the fretboard.....
I played slide a lot when I had that nasty hand injury last year - it kept me from going insane, when the stitched-up fingers wouldn't move where I wanted them to move. THAT took time and patience - commodoties I'm a bit short of, so I decided to improve my slide playing - which wasn't up to much, anyway. But a few hours a day really helped - I couldn't even put the guitar in an open tuning, left hand was useless couldn't even turn the tuning pegs - so I learned how to play slide in standard.
Think about Django - the man only had two working fingers - and man, what he couldn't play isn't worth knowing!
Once again, try slide - you may just take to it!

My hand is still in a cast for at least 2 weeks, I'll try slide when it comes off :D

Teleplayer suggested trying a slide on my toe - I was so frustrated at the time, I nearly took him seriously - had my sock half-way off!
Seriously though, the only finger I could move on my left hand for a couple of weeks was my index - so I tried playing lap-steel slide style with it. Wasn't a great success, but I did actually learn something about scales.....

Just wanted to stop in and say, I'm so impressed with everybody here. I post something looking for a little reassuring, maybe some sympathy, and it seems that everyone I've ever interacted with on this site chips in to wish me well :D
Thanks guys. Your support has been incredible :D

What? You think I'm going to try and out-do him? Not a chance! These days my hands are encased in three layers of bubble-wrap when I'm not playing guitar!

And a finger in glass or brass when you are.

Well, in a fit of boredom I figured out the total length of the incision. Close to 11 inches, near as I can tell
Interested in a length comparison, Vic?
Cue Ric's Johnson
