DLH band update

Well, it's been 5 months since taking an aggressive stand with my new band.I was thrust into playing live gigs with them roughly 45 days into attempting to learn 50 songs I'd never played and over 50% I'd never heard. Truth be told, some of the song endings are still a little on the less than polished side, even to date. :oops: So I was figuring on taking over the drumming responsibilities for the current band. Within 2 weeks of joining this band I was informed that all members were quitting or being replaced. :shock: (Shock number one)So I was practicing with the (new) replacement members while gigging live with the original band. That was/is different.Now over the last 6 weeks this little project has snowballed into a huge business. We are literally booked every weekend up through November. My old band couldn't even do that on a good month. Since March we have played local bars that both the bands played at. However, there were two major differences that became apparent the very first time I played one of the local bars with this new band. We actually had people that came for the show. Full house (SRO) even. Not just people coming in to eat dinner and high tail it out before the band starts. The second was the realization the crowd actually would stay the entire night. :shock: :) So for the last 6 months I was figuring on playing a couple weekends out of each month and have some extra pocket cash and doubling my song resume. Ha! Far from it. I just received an updated band schedule and it is booked solid. Now what makes this way different than my previous band experiences is that we would always play at bars or outdoor gigs for a very small amount of cash and large amounts of labor....hauling and setting up all your own gear and usually on very small inadequate stages for a less than enthusiastic crowd. Plus, bar hours are usually 9-1. Let me introduce you to the next level. I just had my first taste of it and I'm not sure what to think.First some pictures of this weekends experience. Unbeknownst to me, I had taken my digital camera down to snap a few pictures and come to find out the battery was dead so I was only able to grab a few shots.Let me tell you a little about playing for casinos....First, we play 6-10. :D We have it set up so that we do 3 50 minute sets with two large breaks.We load in whatever gear we need and the house supplies the rest. In this case, the lights and PA system/sound man was part of the house gear. Benefit: dynamic audio adjustments real time. Each song will sound different by the band and the sound guys can compensate for anything askew. Plus, as you can tell there is ample room on stage for anything.Second, we were given hotel rooms for the night and meal vouchers for the weekend. This is part of the package at all the casinos. When we travel out of our area we are also compensated for travel expenses. Third, we are guaranteed a minimum of $100 per person per night.So other than a rigorous schedule, this seems to be the next step in local band venues.So this leads me to my million dollar question.Why did I resign from them on Thursday night? :shock: I still can't answer that question, myself.
