I am so happy. a while back I posted that my 60 year old ukulele died. a piece of the fretboard and nut broke. it had a plastic fretboad.
I began searching ebay for another uke or replacement part, but a general search provided hundreds of hits and nothing good. then I tried searching 'Vintage ukulele". boy, I hit the motherlode. only four pages and filled with really cool old ukes.
it was facinating watching the bidding on pre WWII Martin ukes go over one thousand dollars. I saw old Hawaiian ukes made of kopa go for hunfdreds of dollars.
I was after Harmony made ukes. HHarmony made inexpensive guitars and ukes in Chicago for quite a few comapanys.
after tweo weeks of bidding (and getting outbid) on these inexpensive, but vey popular ukes, I scored one. it had a broken body and neck joint. that did not matter, as I was after the plastic fretboard.
well, the uke I won came yesterday. I unscrewd the five screw and put it on my uke. a perfec fit.
my uke can again.
I also had bid on a beautiful Harmony uke in sunbrust with a case. I won that at a very good price. that is on it's way.
so for an intersting look at old ad beautiful ukes go to vintage ukes on ebay.

What a happy ending. Nice going.

here are a couple pics of my uke repair. the flame painted uke, a Harmony, has a dark fret board. it 's body has a few cracks;
I wanted the fretboard.
the other uke is my main uke. it is a Harmony Roy Smek model. same plastic fretboard.
the photos show the fret boards switched. you can see the crack on the red colored board.
I think the red board worked better with the plain mahogany uke, but the switch does not bother me.
teh old Harmony that's cracked has very nice tuners and bridge. I will save it for parts.

In Space, no one can hear me sing!
All is well uke-wise in dogbite land then. Good to see. Those of us who have one know how peaceful playing one can make one's self. 8)
Have you ever posted anything on Soundclick using it?
I got a lot of stuff on my plate right now. But was thinking of doing a Sweet City Woman down the road. Not sure why that one songmakes me think Uke and only Uke. :?:

Roy, here is a bit of blues noodling on the circa 1950 Roy Smek mahogany uke .

I also used it on an old recording of Folsom Prison Blues

good stuff, dogbite!
I inauggarated mine this past w-e: David and I performed a dual-uke-fueled (say it fast 10x) version of :note1: All Along the Watchtower. :note2:
-=tension & release=-
watch tower!! awesome. I have been playing Wild Horses on my uke. sounds beautiful.
I find it facinating what can be accomplished on four strings. the scale and intervals on my six stringer are making more and more sense.

Cool! Great news! :D
I was thinking to buy an uke these days. I am subscribed to the channel of a uke's teacher in youtube and also I remember your recordings and comments. Tomorrow I want to go to my guitar store, I need new strings. I'll ask by ukes. It is not easy to find them here.
