I take the chance of posting something not remotely guitar related here
I'm off to Italy for a few days next week, and I'm looking for a cheap hotel in central rome (hah!). I've considered the hostel thing, but I think I'm too old for that - I want my own room and my own toilet. Nothing fancy - peace and quiet - anyone with recommendations?
And - I been there some times before - but if there is anything I should definetly do - please shout.
oh and - I have never seen any Italians around here(?) but should there be anyone desperate to play some Dylan in Rome next week you better call out now ;-)

Right continent, wrong country - but if you're ever in England and feel like playing some Dylan songs, let me know and I'll pack my acoustic and a few harmonicas..........
Have a good time, but be careful if you're anywhere the football ground - I think it's this week Roma play Manchester United in the Champions League, and after the violence there last year, I think it's a safe bet to say there will be worse this year - plus the italian Police aren't known for their high-tolerance approach, more a case of crack some heads first, ask questions later.....

I've been to Rome, Georgia. Can't tell you a lot about it now, though, it's grown.

Actually I'm probably closer to England where I sit right now in norway. And I've heard rumours about a Mersey jam in late august. THAT is tempting and not very unrealistic...
Edit - and I am in London 15 and 16th of may if I recall correctly. I hope you keep your word ;-)
Football ... is that the thing on ice with skates and sticks?

Nope - its the game played by John Arne Riise, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Stig Bjornebye, Oyvind Leonhardsen and Vegard Heggem - and that's just in Liverpool!
May 15th/16th, huh? Any other brits up for a Hyde Park jam? Seriously? I'll try and make it if I can - and as of now, I can't see any problems - as long as I don't have to SLEEP in Hyde Park......
Let me know more a little nearer the time.....

That is TOO cool! :D
But actually I was wrong with the dates. I'm flying in on the 13th of may in the night and leaving 15th in the morning. I have no plans. So it will be the 14th in Hyde Park. I will be the guy with Harmonica rack and no guitar - but maybe a travel amp...

I am half Italian. the first six years of my life I was raised by my Italian grand parents. my grampa did not speak English.
I have been all over Italy, but never to Roma. I will email some Italian friends and see if they can point out a good place.
I am like you, hstels are way in the past. just give me a clean room. nothing fancy. and not facing the main drag. too noisy.

Thanks dogbite - I appreciate that. However my trip was litterally lost in the fog today. :-(
Hope I get my 10euros refunded from Ryanair :-)
