I have a Seagull S6+. I'd like to get a pickup installed so that I can plug in (play at open mics and so on).
I was thinking I could upgrade the Seagull with a pickup, either an under-saddle one or an under-saddle with an internal microphone: http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Musician/Guitar/Pickups/pickups.html
The under-saddle seems to be the cheapest: http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/Luthier/Technique/Guitar/Pickups/Matrix/matrix1.html ($100 for the unit + $50-$100 for the installation). The blender unit is probably more expensive (not sure of the price)
The last choice is to just get a new acoustic/electric guitar. There are a bunch of low-cost acoustic/electrics around $300, but obviously that has all sorts of issues for picking a guitar I "like."
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Take the time to check out LR Baggs M1 Active soundhole pickup, it's 160.00, 60 more than what youre looking at. You can plug it into a standard amp because it has it's own preamp and volume control on board. I'm a beginner, but I heard one and it sounded great to me, you can check it out at Harmony Central (reviews).
I asked around on some other forums, and I think there are a lot of people who are into the K&K Pure Western Mini, which is a soundboard transducer for about $90 (not counting installation). It doesn't need a battery, but supposedly outputs a strong enough signal that it can be used without a preamp.
I asked around and the installation cost on a pickup is $100, so I'm looking at $200 total for pickup + labor. At that price, I'm wondering if I could just sell my Seagull (probably get about $200 for it) and use that towards getting a new acoustic/electric...
hmm...
