there still doesn't seem much in the way of addressing royalties to the individual songwriters. Peace

I agree with that David.. I dont know about all of the peices of the industry but I have been elbow rubbing with some published songwriters lately, and no less that three of them that I know (sure there are more) have really gotten raw deals from the publishers and artists that they deal with.

Will approach the songwriter with negotiations to use a particular song, bow out of negotiations and then in two cases the ladies ended up finding out the artist performed the song anyway, put it on a CD, sold copied.. So the publisher comes back with a "Wow, we are SO sorry that happened, we will cut a check to you right away" Only problem is they are cutting a check based on no negotiation, knowing full well that the songwriter now feels in a vulnerable position.

In the other case, there was a contract but it turned out they were selling the song as a single digitally over the web. Sure they sold some CDs to but it was a much smaller number. Of course, the songwriter isnt in a position to know exactly how many have been sold digitally so again, she is vulnerable.

Not sure that applies to the conversation now that I wrote it out.. but its an example of what some songwriters are going threw. I know they can file court cases, probably, but its still a bad deal. They want to keep good relationships so they can sell more songs down the line.

Tough

This looks promising, too:
