Bet there's a few of YOUR favourites missing from there......
:D :D :D
Vic
"Sometimes the beauty of music can help us all find strength to deal with all the curves life can throw us." (D. Hodge.)
I Could Have Lied - RHCP's
Best solo ever
Ken
"The man who has begun to live more seriously within
begins to live more simply without"
-Ernest Hemingway
"A genuine individual is an outright nuisance in a factory"
-Orson Welles
One thing I should have mentioned - although Planet Rock broadcasts on-line, it's a predominantly British radio station so i'm guessing there's a definite bias towards British artists there.....
And the first thing that struck me as missing? Paul Kossoff's solo on Free's "All Right Now" - almost wants to make me rush out and buy a Les Paul!

That's a pretty basic list, but then again so are all of them. It's almost impossible to come up with an accurate top 50. But it's not a bad list at all really, it's accurate, but there are a lot of other songs if you dig deeper, of course.
Robert Frip...."21st Century Schizoid Man"
Neil Young, Cinnamon Girl
Neil Young, Cinnamon Girl
Point made ... but no soup for you wise guy!
Steely Dan: My Old School and Bodhisattva
Amos Garrett: Midnight at the Oasis
(we've been here before, haven't we?)

Planet Rock also broadcast on DAB Digital Radio. Are Alice Cooper and Tony Iommi still presenting shows?
Nice to see Brian May making it into the list, but whatever happened to Samba Pa Ti (sp) - how can they ignore old Carlos.
Best,
A :-)
"Be good at what you can do" - Fingerbanger"
I have always felt that it is better to do what is beautiful than what is 'right'" - Eliot Fisk

Robert Frip...."21st Century Schizoid Man"
+1
I think the problem is the length: we would need 400 or 4000 entries.
For example, the German band Scorpions has very good solos and they were an icon in the 70s and 80s (mainly 80s).
Robbie Krieger (The Doors) When The Music's Over
Randy California (Spirit) The Girl In Your Eye
Marc Bolan (T.Rex) The Ballrooms Of Mars
Lee Pickens (Bloodrock) Breach Of Lease
Robert Fripp (King Crimson) Larks Toungues in Aspic (all of them!)
Glenn Buxton (Alice Cooper) Under My Wheels
Eric Brahn (Iron Butterfly) In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
John Kay/Mars Bonfire (Steppenwolf) Magic Carpet Ride
Brain-cleansing music for brain-numbing times in a brain dead world

Neil Young, Cinnamon Girl
Thats a great one, my favorite NY solo is "Down By the River" I wore the LP out on that one
So many solo's....so Little time :P
All of the above.
My favorites:
The Something solo by George
The solo in Gloria, by Them
That long solo in Suzy Q by CCR
The Woodstock Johnny B. Goode by Jimi - especially the segment where he does a big bend and it slides right into a howling feedback. You can also hear the difference in tone when he does that other bit with his teeth. Lots of 'bite.'
Shape of Things by Gary Moore
Cream's Crossroads
I also think any solo you can sing along to is great. :)
The lead work in Stranglehold is one of my all time favorites.
Dan
Wow it seems so strange to see a list of songs that I'm actually familiar with. Everytime I see one of the top ten or 20 listings it makes me feel old, never heard the songs, don't recognize the arttists. From that list I'd choose #19 from Ten Years After, brings back memories of high school.
WHAT?! No FREE BIRD?!
"A cheerful heart is good medicine."
